Those micron magic filter discs look mighty tasty but when innoculating with a syringe into quarts would the micron magic filter disk move and some unsterile air would be sucked in? like if you press down or it could move as you are removing the metal band and in comes a cloud of contams. Does anyone have any experience with them? Am I crazy or is it pretty easy to mess up and suck in some bad air? Are they that much better than polyfil?

ive never used the disks but i think you have one disk on while youre presure cooking. the disk melts to the jar forming a seal. you poke youre syringe through the first one with another one handy, and once youve innoculated it put down the second filter disk and screw on the lid band. thats what i read on the website.

Why am i surrounded by idiots???

Tom - I havent had the chance to try the micron magic discs yet, but I do intend to. You mentioned "a cloud of contams" entering the jar. If someone is working under conditions that unsterile... no form of filtering is going to save his jars.

I've said before that an oversized cut with a rubberband should keep it airtight. Of course, common sense dictates that you wouldn't pressure cook with the rubber bands on. But adding a rubberband after the second filter would keep any suction from being drawn under the filter to the holes in the first.
