It will be interesting to see the fruitbodies from Sporulators cultures, will they exhibit the pointy umbo like my collection, I'm sure the clone will.


To be honest with you P. subaeruginosa and P. allenii are identical aesthetically. I would not be able to tell them apart. How to you even begin to distinguish the two?

They are macroscopically different and easy to distinguish apart.

P. allenii is a collybioid species with a convex to plane cap, sometimes hemispherical but never umbonate, sometimes with a slight depression in the centre, the colour is a slightly lighter caramel-brown than P. subaeruginosa and the striations are more pronounced in P. allenii.

P. subaeruginosa is conic to convex and umbonate, the umbo can be pointed and acute as in my collection above.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Are the P. allenii in NZ verified by ITS sequencing, or just macromorphology?

It's crazy how much they love the cabbage tree leaves!

I have found similar examples thriving on cabbage tree dead fall!

Ever since I saw those seco clusters been wishing and hoping to dig down a monster seco patch or a patch that puts out amazing clusters like those.

The seco ENVY is real..

Hey inski, have YOU ever observed such a GREGARIOUS cluster of secos before? Or is that viktorvaughn collection a particularity unique case?

Personally I have never found any thing that holds a candle to that great big fuckoff cluster.

I have however observed UNREAL sub clusters before. Insane fairy rings and shit..

In my opinion subs are lame in comparison to secos.

Yes I've seen it in large clusters like that and it is one of the distinct characteristics that separate it from P. weraroa which never grows in such caespitose clusters but rather only singly or in pairs at the most.

Supposedly the DNA sequences are the same but I'd like to see further study done, I'm not totally convinced they are conspecific.

      Hi Inski, no umbo so far. They have started fruiting yesterday. I wonder how they will develop within the next days.

It's quite interesting, if the clone doesn't produce that pointed umbo then I guess we could say it was an environmental trait, if it does I guess it is a genetic trait and the strain you isolated may not show that trait:shrug:
We'll have to wait a while and hopefully the clone fruits.
