naw man when i was doing cakes i had 6 106 qts sgfc and was trying to make 50 cakes a week w a 8 qt pc i know alot oabout cakes
heres a pic of the last cake i harvested this is the second flush i love this pic still cuz growing cakes was so fun

i bet there is perlite in that trailer to this day

I almost filled my Presto to the brim this last time I made cakes. It looked so awesome :grin:

I actually have around 40 1/2 pint jars now :eatingout:

Ok!  Got it now, thank you!  This truly looks easy AF.  And I know you gotta have some skill and check the damn things...  but from an entry level position, this seems the most logical and efficient thing to try first.

Last Question.  How thick in inches or cm. Do I want the layer of bulk substrate to be when it goes into the HC?

Thank you again.  Looking forward to posting my success or failure soon.  I’m at 100% colonization on 13 1/2 pint BRF cakes and waiting for them to consolidate a bit more.

Then it’s this...

I’m going to do just coir as you have suggested and only add in dry verm if it’s over field capacity.  I’m also going to use a 1:2 ratio.  BRF cake : Coir.

If you're going to spawn cakes I suggest you check out the third link in my sig which will direct you to MushroomNate's thread about spawning cakes. You'll find all the info there and you can post questions in that thread!

And you don't need HC for a bulk grow. Cakes/grain mixed with coir inside a tub is fruited just like that from the tub it's in. The substrate itself creates the humidity it needs :thumbup:

A HC is basically a bulk grow substrate inside a tub and cakes on top of the substrate. (but the substrate is not inoculated with spawn)

Co2 will settle our of air with no movement. In a sealed airtight box. If there are currents if air then there is mixture. The air does circulate as describe in the mono Tek but not because of co2 settling.

What if you have many tubs? Isn't it better to have a set and forget system?

I've had success with both modded and unmodded. they both work, its all about keeping your surface moisture up while providing adequate fae. You do that and you can make any FC work. I mean pasty fruited a bath tub and ham fruited a kiddy pool lol.

no manually taking care of your tubs will give way better results than a set and forget

The airtight box has to be a few miles high for that to happen actually

The holes are made by virtue of how the lid fits when it's upside down. My holes are bigger and less stuffed than monotub holes. And i skip the pointless bottom holes that don't do shit Because air follows the path of least resistance

Some monotub theories say air goes in the bottom holes out the top. Some monotub theories say air goes out the bottom holes in the top.  That's why they're theories. They're useless opinions not measured facts

holes are made for alot of reasons thats old shcool ways of groweing before the figured out air flow thur the tub ya it works but tubs need air coming in thur the holes and out the top
if not it will start to fill with hot atale humid air and choke out the sub till u come along and maualy check on it there is no constant air being pulled in and out the tub w out holes just my take

This "hole" discussion is "growing" on me. We have "mushroom" for all opinions here. I'm really "lichen" this a lot. Doesn't seem like to much "truffle" at all! "Amanita" think about the best way to do this. The "mold" way or the new way? "Yeast!" Theres so "mush" info here you can never get " spored"! I think I "mycorhyzae"!
