can the FC sit flat on a shelf, or do i need to put something underneath so oxygen can flow through the bottom holes? also, can perlite be reused or do i need to buy more

Perlite can be reused, however I would toss any out wich smell or appear to have contaim. You can always soak with H2o2, but you want to rinse well before placing back in the FC. I just use boiling water, let dry, then re-use.

Put on a table at least 1 foot above ground and elevate the FC you can use 4" PVC pipes as stands. Why drill holes and then obstruct them?
