Any Anitinatalists here? * 4
    #25608573 -

Antinatalism - Antinatalism, or anti-natalism, is a philosophical position that assigns a negative value to birth. Antinatalists argue that people should refrain from procreation because it is morally bad.

In simple English - dont have kids as you then force them to suffer, and eventually die. And they screw up the planet along the way inevitably.

I personally am strongly supporting this philosophy as I agree that you should not be forced to live when you will later suffer and die “but there is good parts to life!”(which IMO do not outweigh the negatives), if I had the choice I would not have been born (I am not suicidal etc.). I am the result of two hormone driven primates driven to procreate, nothing more. There is no “special reason”, I am just here and my life is negatively impacting billions of other sentient beings and the planet as a whole. Humans are a plague on this earth and we must be terminated (at least the vast majority of us). This probably seems quite a radical viewpoint to many but in reality it’s nothing short of logical, I think so at least.

My question is, am I joined by fellow Antinatalists here? How did you find this viewpoint? Was it the result of a particularly revealing trip?

I think bringing another life into this world is about the most cruel and selfish thing a person can do. I never forgave my parents for conceiving me.

Reasonable assumption, but I would describe myself as "well to do". Nice house, in a nice place, in a stable country I am in no way oppressed or disadvantaged. Also, for the record I am most definitely NOT GAY!

Not alone mate, its hard but let go of the anger. Instead teach them and anyone else who will listen why they were wrong to put you here, not just show that you are angry about it.  Best of luck dude

Sounds like the sort of pessimistic shite I liked when I was an edgy 15 year old,

The vast majority of peoples suffering in first world countries these days is primarily due to a poor limited attitude and unwillingness to mold their perception into one that works in harmony with the world, instead of against it.

There's people who take walks in the autumn, marveling at the colors, smells, each fungi the eye catches, the sounds of the leaves in the wind, and reflect on how grateful they are to be able to experience such beauty.

And there's people who focus on how cold it is, how cloudy it is, and curse their lives for experiencing such things

I think its an extremely stupid and cowardly philosophy for the spineless and misanthropic.

Since you could kill yourself at any time, no one actually is forcing anyone to live, but I find it pretty repugnant to try to make people feel guilty for acting out their biological callings.

If humans are such a plague, and you really feel like life is such a horrible sham such that we should just hang it all up and give up, why don't you take the first step and remove yourself from the equation?

The only difference between you and someone like the Columbine shooters is that you don't think you should kill people that are already alive.

What a pitiful, low opinion of yourself and of life itself.

Maybe you're right to be antinatalist, but just for yourself and whatever pitiful genes created such a pointless frame of mind. We definitely don't need more of this style of philosophizing.

I enjoy life. This world has plenty of beauty to offer. Still not worth the trouble if you ask me. Better to have a peaceful nonexistence.

Yep, I am one of the few antinatalist Shroomerites

Antinatalism seems to be a very unpopular opinion no matter where you go; I see there have been a few people getting all wound up in defence of "biology" or whatever.

Also I suspect that psychedelics instill a desire to live in those who use them, so you might find fewer antinatalists here than anywhere else.

Ever since I've thought about things like this I've been sure that it's wrong to reproduce, it is quite obvious and doesn't require much complicated reasoning:

People who live will also die, people who were never born will not die, therefore by giving birth you are also causing death, in short you are causing your own children's death.

Life is never without suffering... Some suffer far more than others, but life is never without suffering, so giving birth is causing suffering.

Imagine if you asked someone why they were choosing to have a baby, and they said "to torture and eventually kill our kids, of course!", that would be pretty fucked up wouldn't it?
Well, that's pretty much exactly what it is, except it's passive rather than active...
Compare it more accurately, then, to watching someone dying and not helping them.
Also an act of omission, no better, no worse.

I would stop short of blaming my parents, simply because they probably didn't think this deeply about it.
If they did think this deeply and still decided to have kids, then yes I do blame them.

The argument of "if you hate life so much why don't you just kill yourself?" is wrong on many levels.

1) Suicide is not without pain and suffering, especially for those who do not have access to the appropriate poisons or methods of committing suicide.
2) Committing suicide hurts those who love you, while never being born doesn't do that, obviously.
3) Suicide is frowned upon and "illegal", so although you may believe that suicide is the solution to this problem, the state does not, nor does religion.
4) Some religions suggest that those who commit suicide will go to Hell or equivalent, this could be a confounding factor for followers of these religions. Having never been born would not be a sin.
5) Not everyone has the ability to commit suicide, they might be physically unable due to disability, or the fact that they are under constant supervision and any attempt at suicide would be thrwarted.
6) Suicide only becomes possible once you recognise what it is, so anyone younger than, say, 8, would be unable to commit suicide, and would thus have had to suffer through 8 years of life before escaping.

Antinatalists unite! :P

People who say life is peachy and wonderful have every right to feel that way. It’s your life. See it how you want it.

But if you choose to take this view, don’t be a hypocrite. Shroomery member dies from an over dose? Don’t feel bad about it or talk about how it’s unfortunate. Life is good and happy. You get cancer?. Don’t ask for my pity. You say life is good and wonderful.

Everybody says life is good and blissful until something fucked up happens to them haha.
