I've had visions of "my ark" before but to me, in retrospect, I doubt that it hasn't come from the ego or directly from fear. How can you be sure it's the one?

I am married.  I don't believe in the concept of "the one."  It's utter hog shit.  People who place that kind of burden on another person are not in a healthy relationship.

We look at our union realistically, that's probably why we've been together for so long.

That's not to say we'll be together forever, because people do change over time.  We're well aware of this.

Sorry if this is a bit personal but are you in an open marriage, perhaps?

Regardless of that, what made you want to pull the trigger and marry this person? What made you sure it's what you wanted to do?

She has not.

It may sound rash, but we had been together for about eight years at that point.  We knew each other, we knew what to expect.

If you are looking for a clinical and sound reason for a proposal, you'll never find one.  Not in a healthy relationship anyway.

Exactly. It just felt 'right' when I did it. It's not like I even proposed. We were eating a place of Sushi at a restaurant and one of us said 'shall we get married?' and the other one said 'yeah, let's do it'.

Everything I did in the early days of that relationship felt right like that - completely effortless - but 'right'.

That's a really shitty response to a really beautiful moment of my life I just shared with you.

Good luck finding someone to propose to you. I hope they're not as goddamn awful as you are and bring a little more light into your life than what you have now.

I came home after work to find her absolutely tossed and dancing in the living room. I was already a few into it, so I grabbed the bottle and we danced to otis redding until we fell on the couch laughing.  I wanted to propose there and then, but she beat me to it.

I think it's more than people overstep their boundaries these days because of the lack of face to face communication. I GUARANTEE you would not have said that to my face.

Teasing and taking the piss is something I do with my friends. You are not my friend, by default, just because we're in the same community.
