Teasing and taking the piss is something I do with my friends. You are not my friend, by default, just because we're in the same community.


I take the piss out on everyone, friends or not, and you're the last person I'd consider a friend on here. :shrug: Also I guarantee I would say it to your face. I said pretty much the exact same thing to my own parents when they told me their proposal story. My mother agreed with me so I can only imagine how your spouse might have felt. Jokes hit hardest when there's an underlying truth.

Gay marriage is legal where I live. Some would actually say I live in a 'gay mecca', but homosexual marriage goes against my own beliefs. In fact, it goes against the very reason marriage was established as a social institution.

No, it's a well-established, well-tested part of culture specifically created to keep families (particularly with children) bound together. If anything it's based out of love and concern for the upbringing of children.

I think it's laughable that the vast majority of people think they have enough of a clue (myself included) about these things to uproot time-honored institutions and traditions that have worked for millennia. I'm not saying there isn't legitimacy to change but in order to do it effectively, it must come about very slowly and only if the need for it arises. People are all too quick to throw these things out the window for their own conceited sense of altruism.

He's extremely young.  Claims 20s but I think he's a teen.

When you have no counter-argument left, resort to name calling and character defacement. That will teach me.

I keep waiting for the day someone offers me up a well-based argument against my beliefs at this point in my life. I am genuinely hoping for it. But time and time again it devolves into this kind of nonsense by the very people who claim to know better. If you really do then prove it.

That's not name calling or character attacks, it's a fact.

You are a child and have no clue how the world operates. 

You simply lack experience.

If your beliefs are based off of religion, which you have stated they are, it's just made up garbage.  I really can't offer you more than that when you come to me lacking facts and spouting superstition.

On top of that, none of us here owe you anything at all.

That's incorrect. None of my beliefs are based off of religion specifically although I don't shy away from religion as a whole and lots of the lessons they can share. My beliefs are based entirely off the reality of my experiences which are, admittedly, somewhat limited due to my age. Although my age isn't nearly as young as you claim.

No, but I do think older generations owe it to younger ones to try and share some truths about life. Otherwise history is doomed to repeat itself over and over again which you seem to have some genuine concern about.

I know tons of kids that are rad as hell and I have a lot more hope for the next generation.

Most of the entitlement I see comes from Boomers and early Gen X, usually while accusing children of it. (not you, my lovely rust-faced friend)

I'm just being honest when I say he lacks any experience in the world.  I'd wager he still lives with his parents and has never held down his own place.  He's way too sure of the world to have been in it.

I like this. I wish I could agree with you too, but I've seen too many out there with that arrogant certainty of their own beliefs and righteousness, even after some level of exposure.

I think it comes down to two things:

1. Overcompensatory ego to mask feelings of insecurity and uncertainty
2. Lack of truly ego shattering life experience

Even after 2, some don't seem to heed the call to rebuild with compassion, but rather become more twisted, bitter, and 'certain' of their knowledge.
