Contam (of course)

So I inoculated 12 1/2pt jars (BRF) with AA+. They are doing fine. I had made a spore syringe a couple months ago (actually two syringes) of Mezatapec spore prints and stored them in the fridge. I've done this before with no issues. I inoculated 6 qt jars of WBS and 6 more with AA+. Out of the 6 jars of MZ, 4 are contaminated. I used the same WBS i mixed for both the MZ and the AA+. So. It appears one of the syringes of MZ I used went bad or was somehow contaminated. I followed the process pretty closely. Distilled water, clean and sterilized syringes and clean work environment. So my question is, can spore solution go bad in the fridge? Or is it possible I've picked up contam during the process? I'm not to freaked out about it, more curious than anything.

Yes and yes. You may have had contam along the way, or during...Save the heartache and make yourself some agar pots\plates and you'll be able to get clean spawn all the time:thumbup:

I just picked up a 22 qt Presto so I think I'm going to start Agar soon. Still researching it.

Agar is stupid simple. 2g agar 2g nutrients per 100ml water. Thats it. Mix, boil, pc, pour plates.

Tge water needs to be sterile. Not distilled. Sterilize water in ur pc. Then in a sab, repeat what u did. But with STERILIZED WATER.

So the contam was probably in ur water or on ur print. Use agar man. Its alot cheaper to throw away than jars full of spawn :frown:
