Inside the house I have to use a variation of the 'shoelace' technique (No shoes inside the house here in Japan...). Checking the carpet for lint is a great alternative!

I like to wait until I'm in an enclosed space (preferably with other people). I not only get to enjoy the smell of my fart for a prolonged period, but, should other people be sharing the space with me, they also get to sample the fart more thoroughly.
