A Hypothetical Situation
    #2544802 -

It is a week before election day. Bush and Kerry are mainly tied as they are right now, and people on both sides are either worried or arrogant, as they are now. Suddenly, a terrorist attack happens. A bomb goes off in Washington and kills 1,000 people. Al-Qaida takes responsibility for it.

Who do the American people vote for? Do they vote for Bush, who they believe will protect them better (after all, to fight terrorism you must cause it,) or will they vote for Kerry, because Bush has created more terrorism and wars to their eyes?

You could say it would happen the same in Spain, that many more people would vote for Kerry. However, the Americans are not the Spanish, and I believe after 9/11 Bush's approval ratings actually rose. Also, this might reinforce the idea that we're in the middle of a War on Terror, so it'd be a bad idea to change presidents. I also believe that the statistics in Spain were not as close as they are now between Bush and Kerry.

What do you think would happen?

Ah, I just saw that LOBO said something along the same hypothetical lines. However, this is more wondering who the American populace would vote for were this to happen.

I don't think it would. The terrorists aren't stupid, and I doubt even they know which way it would make the American population vote (not that it matters. Bush pisses off more and more Arabs everyday, creating new terrorists. Kerry wouldn't kill as many, and would probably look at intelligence a bit more. I think they'd want the people to vote for Bush, but alas, without any statements from the terrorist organizations it's hard to tell at this point.)

Depends where Bush & Kerry were when the bomb went off.
