Please confirm this T. Pachanoi cutting * 1

I got my first cutting today (and a Bridgesii in a day or 2). Supposed to be 24" T Pachanoi. Want to make sure that's what this is. It's a little more banged up than I thought it'd be.


Should I re-cut the bottom and let it scab again? Also, I was thinking since it's 24" I could cut this into 3x 8" pieces and root each separately. Sound like a good idea, or should I stick to 1 whole plant?

Any input appreciated because i'm totally new.

It looks like a badly dehydrated pc pachanoi. Leave the bottom alone. I would cut it in half and plant two 12 inch cuttings. You will have to let the new cut callous before planting. Best luck!

hmm, it looks a bit like one of my trichocereus pachanoi, but this one seems unusual how its ribs jut so far in before coming back out again...

how can you tell that its pc?
also, aren't they practically worthless regarding alkaloid content?

Pc has upward facing areoles and spines of that size. Some people say it has a "sawtooth" profile. It tends to be skinnier than non pc pachanoi. Your cutting is really dehydrated so I might be wrong, but I don't think so. Its not worthless but it has less alkaloids than most pachanois.

will those 2 features alone identify a pachanoi as PC?
what do u mean by sawtooth?

edit: and how many inches would you say is skinny

It's all good man. My original thinking was Pach's are popular for growing fast, so I'd use this/these for Decor & grafting stock. I'm gonna try hybrids, bridgesii, etc the more potent slower ones, for eating.

After looking up PC id and comparing, I see that sawtooth shape. I think you're right. Thank you.

Gonna half it and put that bottom cutting on soil. Should probably give the top half a good mist since it's so dehydrated and need to scab?

I have a bridge and other pachs that keeps up with my PC in terms of growth rate. It all just depends.

You just have to see pc side by side with other pachanois and you will see the differences. I'm not sure how many inches exactly.

I'm not a huge fan of pc because I don't like it's look compared to other trichos. And there are other trichos that will grow just as well but have better activity and a look that is more to my liking. But pc is not a terrible plant. To each his own.

Found some comparisons and i think i can see it now, and I have to agree with you: pc isn't nearly as attractive as some of these other pachanoi varieties i'm lookin' at now.
