There are anti-viral medications (ex. Zovirax), but they are only given after the fact of infection to persons who have an active or recurrent infection. 

Anti-viral medications are not effective against post-herpetic neuralgia.  For that we give trials of neurontin (gabapentin).  May or may not help.  Some people get relief, others, not.  The nerve pain can (and often does) occur with NO outward sign of infection in a person who is known to have had prior history of herpes.

I had intercourse with a woman I knew had it. I took the "It's just herpes I'll be ok and probably dodge it" mindset.

I didn't dodge it or even close.  I have an outbreak ( and bad ) roughly every 6 weeks.  I take valtrex daily to prevent outbreaks ( which is a pain and is uncomfortable to take ) and it does nothing.  When I have an outbreak it takes about a week to clear up, and I have to take 3200 mg of acyclivoir ( valtrex ) daily for it to go away and drink a ton of water.

That being said, my current female is clear of it. We are very clean and I won't touch her or vice versa if I am having an outbreak.  It's too risky, I dont want her to contract it.

Typically I hear people who have it only have an outbreak once or twice and never see it again, but not me unfortunately. It does cause pain, and I usually get a mild cold before the outbreak rears through the skin.  Proceed with caution.

I'm, I think the next time a chick tries to explain how herpes is ok and not that bad, I'm going to kick her out of the car right on the spot. For just a "skin deseas" it sounds way worse than it's played to be.

Luckily I have medicaid. It's free.  If I didn't I'd probably have more herpes. If you don't clear the outbreak up fast you risk spreading it to other parts of the body....like scratch your dick in your sleep and then rub your eyes!!!!!......not to mention irreversible scarring on your dick. Luckily I've avoided both. Thanks Obama.

I've had it for almost 4 years.  It's never improved. It's horrible for me. But that's just me. not everyone has it like this.  had 5 outbreaks in the 6 months I just spent in jail/prison. Stress plays a HUGE role.

But really, that's just me. not everyone's case is as constant as mine. I've also been on a lot of narcotics over the years I am finally clean from. We shall see how things progress.
