Enkidu said: I'm about to do my first dmt extraction in the next couple days. I think Saturday. Have all the supplies and my bark has been freezing and thawing.
I have some more mhbr as well, I think 175g or so. Im using 75g for my first attempt.
I didn't realize you could go straight to tea... Or I may have just did that instead. You have to add an maoi?
Thanks for your reply
If you're looking to extract, 75 to 100 grams or so is good, if you're looking to use it orally for tea, it's up to 8 grams or so.
Good quality Mimosa root (i use powder, if shredded i grind it up in a coffee grinder and sift out any fibers and use the resulting powder) is usually dosed from 2.5 grams to about 8 grams, 2.5 to 3 grams or so being light but with a good dose of MAO-A inhibition can still be pretty strong, 5 grams is more moderate but could be considered strong enough, and 8 grams seems to be strong/heavy territory ime.
And yeah with Mimosa Hostilis or Acacia Confusa (or Chacruna or Chaliponga) you need MAO-A inhibition to make the DMT orally active because DMT isn't orally active unless MAO-A is inhibited because otherwise MAO-A would break down and metabolize out the DMT, so MAO-A needs to be inhibited for DMT to be orally active. It's been said on the net that Mimosa and even Acacia can be consumed without MAO-A inhibition, but most people haven't had any success with it, and it requires at least 30 grams or more of Mimosa or Acacia, the theory is that there's something within the Mimosa or Acacia that is a weak inhibitor of MAO-A allowing for possible oral activation, or that you're consuming more DMT than MAO-A can break down so while it's tied up/busy with the flood of DMT trying to break it down, some could pass through and become orally active, but as i said most people who've tried it haven't reported much success and it's far better to just take a few grams with adequate MAO-A inhibition for a strong experience and not waste it.
You can inhibit MAO-A with Harmalas (Harmaline/Harmine, active compounds in the plants Syrian Rue and B. Caapi), or you can inhibit it with something like Moclobemide, a pharmaceutical reversible MAO-A inhibitor, a few people have been interested in trying out Methylene Blue for it's possible MAO-A inhibition as well though i've only ever stuck with Harmalas/Rue and Moclobemide. There are some other reversible MAO-A inhibitors out there, both natural (i'd imagine) and pharmaceutical, but Harmalas and Moclobemide seem to work pretty well already. Though Harmalas (with a good strong dosage) cause nausea, vomiting, possible diarrhea, body load, motor function impairment and some other side effects, sometimes a headache can occur, whereas with Moclobemide there aren't really any side-effects that i've noticed, no nausea or vomiting or anything like that, pretty clean/transparent feeling on the body, seems to orally activate DMT pretty well, the main difference being that with Moclobemide it's an oral DMT (or Mimosa, Acacia, Chacruna, Chaliponga) experience, which is interesting and awesome too, but with the Harmalas it's more Ayahuasca-like as Harmalas have other properties aside from MAO-A inhibition that add to and alter the nature of the experience, which i prefer Harmalas but Moclobemide is cool too.
Also one can get around the Harmala-related side-effects by taking them regularly for a couple weeks or so (like a few times a week), and a reverse tolerance will build up which means the effects get stronger the more regularly it's consumed, and as it gets too strong you can back the dosage down bit by bit as you go along for a relatively consistent Harmala dosage. But building up the reverse tolerance will do away with the nausea and vomiting and clean up the body load, and in the long run requires less plant material for the same Harmala dosage. But if building up the reverse tolerance, it's probably best to take the Harmalas/Rue/Caapi by themselves without DMT as the side-effects aren't as apparent and it doesn't require you to take a Psychedelic regularly (unless you want to). And the more MAO-A inhibition you have/Harmalas or Moclobemide you take, the less DMT you'll need for a full dose as it becomes potentiated and even the smallest amount of DMT can be pretty powerful, and the less MAO-A inhibition you have/Harmalas or Moclobemide you take, the more DMT you'd need, so i try to stick with a moderate to high dose of Harmalas or Moclobemide to ensure full MAO-A inhibition.
Also, contrary to what some people still think, one does not need to avoid Tyramine-containing foods when taking a reversible inhibitor of MAO-A, there are no Tyramine reactions, the only reactions you have to watch out for and be careful about are drug to drug interactions, so do not take MAO-A inhibition with things like SSRI's, Amphetamines, and some other drugs, but dietary-wise all is fine and there are no dietary interactions/reactions with Harmalas or Moclobemide. Some people claim they get a headache sometimes, but the headaches are not caused by Tyramine as the gut's MAO-A inhibition is short in duration/temporary lasting anywhere from say 30 minutes to 2 hours max, plus MAO-B can metabolize Tyramine as well if need be, and what i think is causing the headaches is the same thing that causes the nausea and vomiting, Acetylcholinesterase inhibition, it could be bit more than just that but the side-effects of Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors fit the bill for the side-effects being experienced. Also some say the headache they get comes a few days after their experience, which the MAO-A inhibition doesn't last nearly that long and MAO-A would be up again and working like usual and would break down any Tyramine like usual so any headaches experienced in the days after is not from Tyramine.
All in all, reversible MAO-A inhibition is safe, and nothing to worry about, so long as you're not taking certain medications or drugs along with it.
The only other ways to experience DMT is through extracting and smoking/vaping it (with or without MAO-A inhibition through Harmalas or Moclobemide), or by injection, or by insufflation (snorting, though freebased DMT is said to burn like crazy, so you probably would want it in it's salt form like DMT Fumarate). Some say you can also use it sublingually or rectally but others say MAO-A needs to be inhibited for that because there's possibly MAO-A in the mouth and anus, but i'm not sure. I stick to the oral route, i've smoked it but only in the form of Changa, though a few times with enhanced leaf, but usually always have had Harmalas included when smoked/vaped.
