LEts keep this forum clean from attacks and rude responses. Comical responses are okay but no need to be rude when someone asks questions like this. For example. If someone were to ask: Q: Where do shroom grow? A: In the ground. Hehehe. Thats okay. However this one is not okay: Q: Where do shrooms grow? A: Up yor arse. Of course I keep mentioning that everything you need to know about the shrooms including this post are to be found in my Ultimate Field Guide at my website hosted here by the Shroomery. You should check it out and read what I have to say and then if you have further questions then we can all get help from the shroomites. There are also fifty Five species described at the site in the guide including poisonous look-a-likes next to the real shrooms. In fact I posted one such image last fall somewhere in the pictures gallery.

Sorry bout that. I forgot to try to answer the question of increased potency. if you eat enough in a trea form then you will never make tea again.
It is quite potent and the recipe for steeping the ttea is cool.
you just boil the water, turn it off and then put in your spices and wait twenty minutes.
I like to do that with fresh anise. I have found it in Hawaii before and I know it is here int he west coast.

i think you confused the two (psilocybin and psilocin) in youre description of how they are metabolized Psilocybin is broken down into Psilocin by the body.
see that little group of O's and H's on the left side? your body takes that off (de-phosphorylates), making psilocin. this is why they have the same effects on you. the mushroom must have realized that psilocin is very unstable, so it added the phosphorous group to make it more rugged so clumsy monkeys like us still get the message!

NI I am corrct in what I said.
Your body converts the psilocine to psliocybine through amination before it effects you. Psilocybine is water soluable and psilocine is not.
Psilocine can also be extarrracted with methanol

mj, is this a new discovery? lots of people seem to disagree with you:
"Psilocin, the 4-hydroxy analog of psilocybin, is formed by metabolic dephosphoylation of psilocybin and is the active species in the central nervous system"
-Hoita, Weber, Toxicol Appl. Pharmacol. 4, 730 (1962).
(paraphrase) "any psilocin detected in mushroom samples may in fact be an artifact caused by hydrolytic cleavage of the phosphate group off the psilocybin molecule in the handling and sample preparation"
Repke, David B. and Leslie, Dale Thomas, and others. "Baeocystin in Psilocybe, Conocybe and Panaeolus," Lloydia, Vol. 40, No.6 (Nov-Dec 1977), 566-578
(paraphrase) "The maximum plasma levels of psilocin appearing within a very short period after systemic administration indicates a rapid dephosphorylation of psilocybin within the human body"
Hasler F, Bourquin D, Brenneisen R, B?r T & Vollenweider FX (1997), "Determination of psilocin and 4-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid in plasma by HPLC-ECD and pharmacokinetic profiles of oral and intravenous psilocybin in man. Pharm Acta Helv 72:175-84"
"Since dephosphorylation is readily accomplished by alkaline phosphatase, it has been suggested that psilocin is the active component in vivo. The administration of psilocybin to mice results in an accumulation of psilocin in the kidney, liver and brain.... Behavioral effects closely followed the increase in brain levels of psilocin and there is evidence that the CNS effects are exerted only after psilocybin is converted to psilocin.?
Brown, F. Christine, Ph.D. (Springfield: Charles C. Thomas, 1972), "Hallucinogenic Drugs - Publication #825 American Lecture Series, American Lectures in Living Chemistry
"Pharmacokinetic studies of psilocybin in humans have shown the rapid dephosphorylation of psilocybin to psilocin with further conversion to 4-hydroxy-tryptophole (4HT) and 4-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (4HIAA) in plasma. Our study shows that psilocin also undergoes conjugation and can be found in the urine as the psilocin-glucuronide conjugate."
Grieshaber AF; Moore KA; Levine B. The detection of psilocin in human urine. Journal of Forensic Sciences 46(3): 627-630, 2001. (6 refs.)

that seems to SUPPORT what mj said. Psilocyibin must be converted BEFORE it affects you. what about your evidence disagrees with what mj posted?

MJ said psilocin to psilocybin but it should be psilocybin to psilocin.... btw: psilocin is very rare in shrooms....

I stand corrected. I do not know what they I was thinking when I mace that post.
Psilocybine is converted to psilocine.
