I can see that you seem to have found your meaning, but I remain skeptical of "Mother Nature" being a useful concept for all. Sudly, what do you think happens to your mind, your experiences, and your achievements here on this earth you admire so much, after you die? I'm very interested to hear your answer.

A concept not fully grasped may be difficult to understand and the concept of 'Mother Nature' entails environmental sciences and the various disciplines involved in ecology. It may not be useful for all but once understood, if it is accepted by the individual, I believe it can be a useful tool for the development of values and a sense of personal understanding and meaning.

As for my thoughts on what is after death; your mind rots back to the nutrients from whence it came while your achievements and experiences resonate with those they were shared with.

If you want a more fleshed out version..

I'm not saying that there aren't varieties of atheism, I'm saying no variety of atheism can answer the problem of life's meaning at a cosmic level.

Don't many non-theists reject the prospect of the "meaning of life" as superfluous?

A meaning in life seems important but the meaning I dunno or see.

I don't get it,
a meaning as in something to fight for
or something to fight about?

to Me meaning is only about the connections, the personal memories and experiences, the way people feel in situations; like that.

Re: The meaning of life [Re: BlueCoyote]

The only purpose to life is to experience, to learn, through consciousness. To be conscious, to live and learn from mistakes, and to eventually die doing something you consider good or right, that you consider is worth your life. Or at least that's all I can conclude from my life(ves)?

It's like teaching a child, if you want them to learn how to learn, they must draw conclusions on their own instead of being fed answers. You can ask anyone and you won't get an answer that is correct unless you feel it is. Nobody has the answer for your question but you because everyone has a different meaning by the question.

All 'meaning' exists in the eye (thoughts/ego) of the beholder.
So does 'life'.
The 'complete 'meaning' is the sum-total of all 'meanings'.

"For every Perspective, there is an equal and opposite Perspective!" - The First Law of Soul Dynamics

"The acceptance and understanding of other Perspectives furthers our acquaintance with Reality!"

"The complete Universe (Reality/Truth/God/'Self!'/Tao/Brahman... or any feature herein...) can be completely defined/described as the synchronous sum-total of all Perspectives!" - Book of Fudd
ALL INCLUSIVE!!!

A meaning as in something to cherish.

Ask me about one single meaning where this doesn't fit to...

I agree to most parts, but don't ask what life can do for you, ask what you can do for life

The you is multifaceted because we are complex organisms. Priorities or meanings if you will determined and regulated by the environment, dna and how well that curry was cooked. The phenomenal self is a unique adaptation to anticipate future needs.

A fluid dynamic ball of contradictions and grandiosity. If the urge for continuity after the organisms we are disasembles is strong, complimenting scientific knowledge is best use of philosophy.

I think Lawrance Krauss is someone we should emulate.pl Put the old dinosaur philosophers and saints in the playbox. The new frontier awaits.

What is the meaning of companionship?

Is the partnership between beings the purpose of such?

I'm at a loss of words so excuse me if that's nonsense.

Could be similar, but value is more a quantitative thingy...

Could be a quantitative and qualitative approach, like with nature vs nurture, I think there's room for a little of both.

I mean what is the value of a diamond? Because quantitatively it's not much, but qualitatively it's a heap.

I thought more in a monetary value sense... that's quantitative.
Yah, but there even might be emotional value, or other value, so the quality of value is not determined, I guess...
But there are similarities from value to purpose...
