Intellectual Growth = Meaning of Life?

I think that's far, far, far too simplistic an explanation, personally.

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

If you made an artificial neural network that had no specific objective except for growth, the meaning for that artificial network would simply be to grow. I think any "objective" you give to an artificial network, limits the artificial network. The purpose for an artificial network that is constructed to drive a car, might be to excel at driving. But that is a much more limited objective compared to general growth. So any objective your neural network gives itself which isn't just growth, seems to be a limitation. By this way of reasoning, I would say that intellectual growth is the least simplistic/limiting meaning you can have.

I was already in the intellectual growth stage so tripping on acid got me into the meaning of life stage.

Its to provide yourself and others as much happiness and pleasure as possible in our lifetimes.

Say for example if that was true. Then increased intellectual growth would make you better able to do those things. But bringing "happiness and pleasure" to yourself and others, also seems to be a more limited objective than general growth.

What about spiritual growth? Or Emotional growth?

I know people who place massive emphasis on their intellectual growth, yet seem to be as far from understanding the meaning of their lives as it is possible for one to be.

Plants and brains seem to have a lot in common, then!

What's a meaning of life?

I like the linearity, being towards something, but to me if there is an image or picture it is more like a drop in a pool reverberating inward to outward.

It can be a direction or arrow representationally. But I'd say to be fair add infinite directions and departures in an outward radius... and that somehow we create/free associate this... intellect may be in there.

That doesn't make any sense to me.
I mean hey, that's vague.

If it's anything to go by, this may be a little less of a vague output on the 'meaning' behind magic mushroom use and human evolution.

Quote:
Essentially I'm looking at how the fight or flight response and the resulting increase in blood pressure is likely to influence interoception which is awareness of internal regulation responses, such as respiration, hunger, and heart rate.

The idea is that over time, the sympathomimetic chemicals in magic mushrooms(psilocin), are capable of inducing selective responsiveness to visceral sensations and functions such as the fight or flight response which is governed by sympathetic nerves.

PS, also this seems pretty associative.

Philosophy doesn't guarantee meaning, but in its form deals with it. Then, we deal with that in a lapse, usually through intelligible dialogue/conversation. Oftentimes conversation about meaning is trying to cross a lapse, which happens between self and other, but also is meaning itself, at once. Right?

So how is meaning not shared?

All I can see is nothing is so guaranteed as meaning, in the first place especially among others, and many other people's opinions. The late French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas says "Otherness", (which we vibe and ping with) is itself the actual first principle of philosophy. I think with many perennial philosophical problems, it is possible to see this and so find Levinas convincing... But all philosophers have all attempted to distill something...

Aristotle called the lapse the question of "being qua being" (metaphysics). There is dialectic and pursuit of the intelligible/intellectual forms of truth, and goodness, as Plato more originally suggested. I am not sure who is responsible for creating this lapse and search beyond ourselves in something other, as meaning. Why's the arrow/finger pointing out? Has it got to?

You are right. This type of growth might not be fostered by intellectual curiosity, but rather by exposure and hardship. It seems to entail an increased strength of certain neuronal pathways from the neocortex to the limbic system, rather than intellectual growth in the neocortex.

κ-opioid agonists like Salvia divinorum and Ibogaine seem to be better suited to foster this type of growth. This might also be one of the reasons why Ibogaine is more widely used than Magic Mushrooms for heroin addicts trying to overcome their addictions.

We're all solid aren't we.

For me, I search for purpose and value, and I find appreciation in it's place and wake.

I'm in love with myself first.
Whatever makes me happy makes me happy.

I guess I feel alive.

Sometimes I wonder, I truly do.

but I don't know you and I don't want to, all I have for you is care.

You're just a friend.

As Parmenides, a Greek philosopher, famously said, "Nothing comes from nothing." Growth can't be legislated or wished into existence; it needs to be produced.

So I say, but again, growth needs to be produced, and to do so work/time = progress.

I find meaning in asking myself, what is worse?

To kill a redwood or a mosquito, because all life is valuable, even in death.

I think that magic mushrooms and psychedelic experience in general expose the usual consensual intellectual separation of being as being comically delusional~~~next we giggle

Work/time does not equal progress.  All work and no play makes Sudly a dull boy.

The concept of unlimited growth or growth as progress is obviously delusional and doomed to failure on a finite planet.  Bad news Sudly, and please do some current research on this and not even last year, the salmon numbers are near extinction levels this spring.  Down 90%+ year over year.

War will of course gloss over the extinction events going on and create yet more death.  We are truly heading into the abyss, most have their attention focused on their phones.  The lack of concern of that oncoming train is what's discouraging to anyone who cares about anything or anyone other than themselves.  Apparently Sudly you care mostly about yourself and your bright healthy future so just keep you nose to that grindstone and don't look up.

close -
but, incomplete thought ...
separate from what? "separation of being" from what?
as it lacks a specified 'target', it is an example of hypnotic language, and not a definite statement of your 'position'.

But, I agree the cliched question, deserves only giggles,
as has been pointed out for ages,
but like, in the case of religious beliefs, this is lost on most.

the idea of emotional or intellectual growth being delegated to a drug seems out of whack to me.
both kinds of growth are dependent on other growth being in place and dependent upon personal experiences that connect with the emotional and intellectual issues.

when we way meaning of life - we are hardly asking what the word means.

and we are not asking what our life is saying to us or what it means to us.

what we are looking for is a life with meaning, how to have life that resonates and means something to ourselves and to others. it is about life lived deeply and one that connects with others in a good way.

I think you have it upside down. A functional nervous system with intellectual curiosity would have no need of a drug to foster intellectual curiosity. Only a dysfunctional nervous system without intellectual curiosity would need a drug to foster intellectual curiosity. And of course, intellectual curiosity only gives motivation to grow intellectually.

I think most humans are born with intellectual curiosity. But depending on how parents react to questions from their children, they might increase or decrease their intellectual curiosity. Parents that always react negatively to questions from their children, probably decrease intellectual curiosity in their children. Such parents are kinda teaching their kids not to ask questions, and that might kill intellectual curiosity.
