Hello World, (Short review of concepts in fourth post)
I am a long time fan of the forums but am just getting around to making an account because I would really enjoy some feedback on my concepts. I wrote this wild paper for a social psychology class at McGill months ago. The broad topic was to create a unique theory of injustice, and I spent a lot of time trying to explain a few of the things I feel are common challenges for open minded people. I received no feedback from class except my mark and friends I showed. I hope you enjoy and can provide the reflection of others that I'm searching for. It contains many of the thought provoking ideas which opened my eyes to the world and all I want is to share : D Advocates of self-actualizing psychological theories are unjustly dealt the social ramifications associated with narcissism because the concept of being reality-centered is confused with self-centered. One in four Americans aged 18-29 claim no affiliation with an organized religion, and “spiritual but not religious” has become one of the most popular expressions of faith amongst rising generations. (ARIS) These deviations from traditional beliefs are repercussions of the present cultural shift; an attempt to resolve the dissonance between desires to adhere to the objective scientific studies versus the desire to better understand reality, self, and philosophy of the mind. Cyclic Snowflake Theory looks beyond the domain of just one religion, blending the key self-concepts of each in hopes of rediscovering the spiritual gut feelings which led to their inceptions. Professor Taylor’s Snowflake Theory paints a dreary portrait of individuality due to its lack of a self-actualizing component to account for the illusion of self. The Snowflake Theory suggests individuals are 99% constructed by the influence of social memes, norms, genetics and the universe with a tiny sliver of individuality. Cyclic Snowflake Theory will revolutionize the Snowflake Theory as it connects many objective scientific disciplines with the spiritual aspects of self-actualization, creating an exciting new frontier and foundation to experiment on. The Cyclic Snowflake Theory boldly demands research on transpersonal psychology. Only better understanding the positive benefits of being a reality-centered individual can we eliminate the social injustice dealt to supporters and early advocates of such beliefs, expand the scope psychological studies, and improve the human condition. The concept of being reality-centered in the Cyclic Snowflake Theory is an interpretation of “Self-actualization” as a means to experience existence through the eyes of a conscious observer instead of an all seeing god. The Universal System is monotonous and characterless; it is by definition the sum of all the experiences within the system, a constant average of all characteristics resulting in loss of the excitement of living. The Universal System is a collection of equal amounts of all opposing qualities. Value of experience is attributed to observed intensities within a characteristic spectrum. Individuality allows intensity of characteristics such as good versus evil to be observed, enjoyed and the encoded as intensity information sent back to the Universal System. Individuality to the Universal system is like watching a movie, once it’s on just sit back, relax and get away from a boring life to experience action packed danger or a sappy romance. The illusion of individuality is created so observation of each experience seems unique and separate. The most valuable experiences therefore are those of most extreme character intensities because they deviate furthest from the Universal System. Hence the suggestions “live life to the fullest” and “the greatest gift you can give to god is to live a good life.” The Cyclic Snowflake Theory sees life as a series of shifts in consciousness. Physical individuality existed before the earliest episodic memory. Birth is the moment when the known universe split wide open however; despite being one of the most intense stimulatory experiences of one’s life, this moment does not explain individuality. Biologically a baby’s nervous system is almost exactly the same an instant before and an instant after birth yet radically different from that of an adult. (Neural plasticity, Bishop) Tracing backwards from the moment before birth, the individual existed in the womb, and by the kicks a mother feels, it isn’t lying dormant and lifeless. Before the development of the nervous system which allowed the individual to stretch his legs, was the blastocyst embryo. This group of 16 cells, 10^13 times smaller than the adult individual, may not know what it will grow to be, but it is still regarded as the physical individual. The blastocyst has a different experience of reality-centered consciousness, but the trafficking of vital hormones, nutrients, and ions is comparable to a patch of brain tissue exchanging receiving and responding to action potentials. The precursors to that first Individual cell are an egg and sperm, each very much alive in a biological sense. When looking for an origin to self, one is logically drawn to the moment of conception but drawing the line here however; is impossible. Integration of DNA gives potential for an organism but nothing makes the combined cell more living or individual than the two before it. One could even argue that since two cells go in and one comes out, there is some form of death at conception. Death at conception is just another shift in consciousness, a split from the encompassing system in order to add to the illusion of self. Before conception, the mother’s brain creates the signals to hormones the egg cell proliferation from the ovary in yet another massive shift in consciousness, but an instant before and after the egg is still the same egg cell. A woman is born with all her eggs already developed so the individual, in an egg cell self existence, is alive within both its mother’s and grandmother’s womb. Beyond the grandmother, stem cells can be traced similarly through every round of evolution, beyond species, genus, and past kingdom to the inception of life itself. This is a fundament explanation for both the individual and the encompassing singularity which Cyclic Snowflake theory grabs on to. Before life, earth was not a static sphere; it was a flurry of energy exchange at all fundamental levels. It had a life of its own, experiencing the most extreme temperatures and geological shifts. The planets formed around our sun. The sun developed as part of our galaxy and our galaxy as part of the universe representing more and more splits from the Universal Self. The Big Bang marks the most significant split from the Universal Self. Leading physicists have proposed that a massive black hole was responsible for the big bang and creation of our universe. Infinite looping of black holes occurs because they are the initiator and resulting part of the universe. (Universe of Universes, Johnson) Due to the impossibly precise ratios of the fundamental laws which govern our physical world, the Universal System experiences cycle in the exact same physical universe but as a unique individual within every cycle. The “big picture” of time remains the same but the viewpoint changes in each parallel universal cycle. After the reverse journey all the way back to the inception of the universe, understanding the illusion of individuality, and each split’s significance to consciousness, the progression of the theory explores beyond the present. The body forming around the mind is only a representation of self at an instant. We are always growing and aging. Every five days the stomachs lining is replaced. An adult’s skin replaces itself every six weeks. Every year, ninety-eight percent of the atoms of your body are replaced. (Facts of the Human Body) With death and decomposition, consciousness continues develop within the Cyclic Snowflake Theory. It is logical and common throughout most religions to express life after death self aware of the planet’s Heaven as the body returns to its inanimate form. This first death is perhaps most significant shift in consciousness for self-actualization to be realized. Then our sun will burn out and with it the death of the solar system. The solar system within our galaxy has striking similarities to a neurotransmitter within the brain. Both are made up of a small number of components, and floats through a large network which has potential to create unique forms of consciousness. At the center of galaxies lies a powerful black hole, which has a vital role much like that of the sun to the solar system, the earth to mankind, and the brain to the body to function. This massive black hole gives life to the galaxy by gravitationally holding it together but will also take that life by eventually sucking the galaxy into it. The expansion of the universe is undeniable, but physicists are still unsure of the fate of the universe. Regardless of if there is a big crunch or acceleration continues endlessly, massive black holes always exist to give rise to the cyclic nature of the universe. (Creation of the Universe) Life is a game with fierce athletic, intellectual, financial and love competitions in which there are big winners, big losers, and everything in-between. According to Maslow, A reality-centered person is characterized as one who can differentiate what is fake and dishonest from that which is real and genuine in reality. They are problem-centered, looking at all challenges as problems and strive to find solutions to them. They have a different perception of means and ends. The ends does not necessarily justify the means, that the means could be ends themselves, and that the means -- the journey -- was often more important than the ends. (Maslow, Boeree) Narcissists are the quite the opposite, they struggle to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, priorities, and choices of others around them. They are envious of others and seek to hurt or destroy the objects of his or her frustration. They behave arrogantly, superior, invincible, immune, "above the law". Cannot control their rage when defeated or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy. (Self-Centered, Neuharth) Selection of a competition which requires strategy, skill, and attention to interpersonal interaction details will best exemplify the dramatic differences between an individual with a self-actualizing reality-centered disposition in comparison to a narcissistic self-centered individual. The Cyclic Snowflake Theory hopes to confirm that if the experience of each player is an integral part of the System then recording changes in characteristic intensities will consistently culminate in an average experience representing the game as a system. Also, of greater interest is the later part of the theory which suggests that if a player has one of the extreme experiences then this player likely expresses the best or worst characteristic intensities for the game at hand. This part of the experiment will aim to expose differences amongst players of opposing characteristics by measuring variations within the characteristic spectrums and observing success of each player. Texas Hold ’em Poker Tournaments are the perfect competition to conduct such research for many reasons. It is commonly played and understood by university students so finding enough participants to control for many variables such as experience level, age, gender, race and socioeconomic status. It is easy to play games with larger number of players. Tables can be equipped with pocket cameras so experimenters can observe interactions live with an omniscient viewpoint of the game and afterwards players can fill out reports on what they were thinking during specific moments of the game. Heart-rate monitors can be attached to players. The game has the useful characteristic that at times it is individual versus individual, individual versus multiple other players and always the individual managing position within the system. In poker, each individual in the tournament starts with the same amount of chips and has the same chance of being dealt good cards, it is the interactions of the players bets, bluffs, and reading ability have almost everything to do with being a successful poker player. Each player centered focus on his chip stack health and plots means to win more chips. A Poker tournament in this manner creates a way of controlling “centered focus” and allows research to pinpoint and measure the true difference between reality-centered and self-centered individuals. The purpose of this experiment is to show both that the individual experiences are deviations from the game system and most importantly that it is unfair to associate self-actualization with narcissism. If centered focus is controlled for then, due to a much better ability to understand and use opponent thoughts, than self-centered individuals. Before the experiment can begin, the participant pool must be filtered to control for variables of age, gender, and socioeconomic status. Our target population will consist of 18-24 year old males with a middleclass western upbringing with an actual size of 54 players. Due to the nature of risk/reward in poker, to get legitimate results players will register and buy into the tournament with real money. To cover the true goals of the experiment, it will be advertised as an experiment testing luck relationships. Participants interested in taking part must complete an online survey containing a section to select participants with desired attributes, but it will also contain a section with the Narcissistic Personality Inventory to assess each player’s localization in such a characteristic spectrum (the NPI-40, Raskin & Terry, 1988). Once information is known about each player’s narcissistic tendencies, they can be split into three different test groups; Reality-Centered, Self-Centered, and a control group. On the day of the experiment just before the game begins, participants will be asked to do a short reading and fill out a questionnaire to assess real time characteristic intensities for happiness, anger, optimism, satisfaction, frustration, and stress. The real time intensities will be used as a base line and measured again at breaks and after a player is knocked out; participants will be asked to stress their performance and attitude in the game only and not their lives in general. The short reading will be a mock blog post written by a famous and successful poker player describing the characteristics that he attributes to him becoming a successful poker player. The reading will be the means of magnifying the independent variable for the second part of the experiment as it will manipulate the characteristic tendencies of each of the three test groups. 18 participants with on the reality-centered end of the spectrum will receive a blog post indirectly hailing characteristics described by the Cyclic Snowflake Theory for the self-actualized reality-centered individual. The control group will not read anything and are representative of the 18 in the center of narcissistic tendency spectrum. 18 participants with on the self-centered end of the spectrum will receive a blog post indirectly hailing characteristics narcissistic self-centered player. Tables will be equipped with two types of cameras for additionally research, one which records the body language of each player as the rest of the table can see and other pocket cameras will be used to see each player’s cards. The players, after completing these steps are randomly assigned seats, the cards shuffled and dealt, cameras begin recording and the game is played. Over the course of a 54 player tournament, in a successful poker player cannot rely on luck alone. Strategy, odds calculation, and ability to read opponents are much more important factors. The characteristics of a reality-centered individual when applied to a poker player manifests in well conceived actions and beneficial interpretations of the strengths and weaknesses of opponents. This player’s insight beyond his own chip stack allows him to calmly understand his position within the scope of the tournament and strategize accordingly. The characteristics of a narcissistic individual when applied to a poker player manifests in rash decisions of overconfidence, inability to read people effectively so he is more susceptible body language trickery. This player’s obsession with his own chip stack often leads to a player going “on tilt” which is depression and foolish behavior due to loss and overly aggressive behavior due to gains. With these characteristics taken into account, the expected results of the experiment are that the reality-centered group will be the most successful; the narcissistic group will be the least successful, and the control group evenly distributed. Due to unpredictable luck involved in poker, a player from any one of the test groups could place first or last place, but with a large enough sample size, the groups will separate according to the trends discussed. Summation of the before and just after real time character intensity differences of all players in the game, will result in zero net difference because increases in such things as happiness or confidence or winners are offset by unhappiness and frustration of losers. By demonstrating these trends, the experiment shows that advocates of the Cyclic Snowflake Theory are being mistreated. Confusion and misrepresentation of the theory occurs if individuality is considered to be a separate singular being instead of an all encompassing singularity. Ironically it is the self centered thought processing of “How come reality revolves around you and not me, I think I am real?” that leads to treating the advocate as self centered and narcissistic. Cyclic Snowflake self-actualization actually suggests that every living thing gets to be god like, the world does revolve around us all individually just in parallel cycles of the universe. This simple misunderstanding of the localization of self, as a singularity instead of an infinite loop, causes skeptics to refute the idea and create negative attitudes about an apparent narcissistic advocate. Modern society is no longer satisfied with empirical data describing the physical universe. Our culture aspires to understand the true nature of individual-Individual interactions within the system and how it creates the illusion of self. The purpose testing the Cyclic Snowflake Theory is to reject the doom and gloom when considering the self concept to be an illusion for it is an illusion with great responsibility. If every experience is attributed value, one must embrace individuality to live it to the fullest, appreciate the present moment, the world and individuals around us. The idea is not the universe revolves around a single individual but that it revolves every individual at the same time due to the cyclic nature of an infinite universe. Interactions between individuals which elicit the most intense deviations from the Universal System in unison or opposition have the greatest value. Basically I take a look at the physical evidence for self. In the search for a clear cut moment when a person is created. Tracing back past childhood, birth, fetal development, conception, ancestors, stem cells, life on earth, life of a solar system, galaxy and eventually the universe, it becomes obvious that individuality is an illusion. I propose a mechanism for which the fundamental rules of matter create incredibly small opportunities for universe formation and initial conditions essential define which path consciousness will take. The science of black holes and the big bang suggests that the universe we live in the the child of another universes black hole. As the universe expands and the black holes suck up all the matter, the cycle is repeated.
Experience is the purpose of the illusion of individuality. Being god wouldnt be fun if all possibilities of existence were constant, known and remembered. Creation of conscious observers creates a perspective on reality much like watching a movie or reading a book, instead of people cozying up and falling into the story, I suggest that higher self is simply experiencing reality over and over again for shits and giggles. Modern society is no longer satisfied with empirical data describing the physical universe. Our culture aspires to understand the true nature of individual-Individual interactions within the system and how it creates the illusion of self. So instead of life at conception there is in some ways death, which is a reoccurring theme in creation and disintegration of the individual. The egg cell which composes half your genetic material was alive not only in your mothers womb, but of your grandmothers as well, and less directly every living organism in the history of earth life. I'm tired and I wish I could say more on this, but what you just described is basically what I feel. I do not have knowledge, but I do have wisdom(in my humble opinion that is :3). In layman terms, from what I gathered you are stating that basically just like how all of our cells in our body work in perfect unison to create a fully functioning body, we as humans(individuals) work together in perfect unison to create a fully functioning universe. Just as matter is destroyed in the process of creating a 'child', matter is also destroyed in the process of creating a Universe's 'child'. Am I correct on my statements?

The idea is that we can't remember before our childhood because existence was a very different experience while we were single cells. Life is all about collective knowledge and experiencing life to the fullest. The great thing to consider about life, is we are now understanding how to communicate with not only other molecules and cells, but collective organisms, species, and culture. When we die we decompose and become one with the earth again, solar system etc. The loop of the universe seems to suggest that right now, we are at the peak of the loop, everything before we have forgotten and everything ahead we get the pleasure of relearning. Seems appropriate. I feel the Universal loop all the time, I see it in daily actions with people, correlation of subjects, action and reaction, reoccurring themes.. The Universe provides the notes, and we are allowed to write whatever song we wish. : )
