All this neurotoxic aluminum. Alternatives to Aluminum gear and supplies?
    #24186998 -

So aluminum is bad for you I guess. 'Studies Show'.

I quit using 'regular people' deodorant because I don't want Alzheimer's disease.  But then I wrangle a bunch of foil around and cook it until it looks different and then re-use the foil and crinkle it around in front of my face again.

Also, my pot that I simmer grains in is a cheap aluminum 'tamale pot' from el super mercado and it seems to be uh, 'changing complexion' in a way that makes me forget my keys.  I cook that thing up real hot!  And it seems to 'scrape' awfully easily.  Aluminum oxide ahhhck!  It was the only huge ass pot I could find at a store?

And oh the pressure cooker.  That's aluminum.

So my question is:
WHAT NON-ALUMINUM ALTERNATIVEs DO YOU USE, OR WISH YOU WERE USING for shroom gear?
Is there a way to avoid foil?
Whats a good simmering pot?

Are there other ways that you've found to use less-toxic gear?  I've always thought the Homer Bucket smelled a little fumey when doing a bucket tek.  I feel kinda weird about PP5s in the PC too.

haha... this is the problem with getting your news from huffington post and buzzfeed articles, they abuse the hell out of that "studies show" line, almost exclusively in the course of misinterpreting studies to make sensational, unproven, irrational claims about subjects which they lack even the most basic understanding... millineal bloggers usually suck at intepreting studies, not that the media is much better

Aluminum is sufficiently nontoxic for the consumer applications it is used in, and the toxic effects of it cannot be absorbed in sufficient quantity through normal use, such as through the skin

Alzheimer's is a complicated disease which is difficult to associate with one singular cause, such as antiperspirant/deodorant use

basically,  :justno:

"everything is toxic at some level"
Even water.
In rare cases, drinking an extreme amount in a short time can be dangerous. It can cause the level of salt, or sodium, in your blood to drop too low. That's a condition called hyponatremia. It's very serious, and can be fatal. You may hear it called water intoxication.Aug 14, 2014

So why worry. Your going to be eating Fungus.

Right.  I understand that everything is potentially toxic.  But some things are more toxic than others, for sure.

So for the sake of this thread, let's assume that I want to use less aluminum, even if some people are cool with aluminum.

its not rare at all, at one point it was the most common cause of death for MDMA fatalities

Hyponatremia is associated with Ecstasy use either because of an inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone or because of sodium loss through excessive sweating during dancing combined with electrolyte-free water intake.

fortunately aluminum isnt one of those more toxic things

you would have a hard time not using aluminum in this hobby, but if thats the health fad you are into, you could probably cater to it by researching some of the traditional SE asian / tropical cultivation methods. i saw some pretty amazing stuff in thailand, but even the indigenous people use aluminum these days

i say traditional because aluminum hasnt always been a cheap metal, it used to be a luxury metal, and there are lots of methods that predate it. manufacturing trends are gonna be most of the problem

This is another "lol wut" thread in my book, nothing that eating more shrooms can't solve.

ive seen aluminum foil dissolved onto a turkey, or the acididy from the sauce.
i don't use aluminum products either, i try to cook with stainless.steel
common sense, if anyone ever cooked aluminum foil on a jar knows,
it leaves all kinda tihs that ruins the pots and bottle tops.

i also dont cook with aluminum foil

aluminum reacts relatively easy with acids, it is quite easy to burn through. foil is extremely thin, and relatively reactive, and usually has some kind of coating, so i have always avoided food cooked in it, just kinda grosses me out

but my pressure cooker? thats heavy duty aluminum
