Does New Orleans suck?

I always heard that New Orleans is awesome, but I feel it might be just another over-crowded place full of annoying drunk people.

Does it actually suck to someone who hates over-crowded cities like me? Or does it stand out for some reason?

I hate New York City for example, so much that i'm getting my friend with a printing press to make me a shirt that says "I H8 NY"

I haven't been around Philly enough to form a solid opinion on it but I think I hate Philly too.

I've only been to the really nice parts of Chicago and LA, so I have semi-decent memories of those places, but would probably hate them too.

Basically, if there's steam coming up from the sewers and homeless people everywhere, I hate it.

I live in rural northern michigan, there's a old military base turned housing project,, that's really isolated, back in 2004, after katrina, FEMA used the place as a refuge sight for katrina victims and they fucked the whole neighborhood up. I was there, there was like 11 year old pimps running game, people pushing on the corner, and there isn't even a fucking corner, no block, or city, just a weird fucking labyrinth of public housing, deep in the woods, local economy is a fucking airport, and a liquor store..

Almost a year ago today I got a little lost in the subway tunnels when I was on acid after a Phish show. It was horrific, I was extremely intimidated by all of the thugs, drug-addicts, and crazy homeless that roam the subway stations at midnight and the general dirtyness of the place. The massive visible divide between the rich and the poor where every stop closer to Grand Central were filled with people more and more visibly well-kept was something that i'm not very used to experiencing.

Not to mention the people selling bootleg everything above ground and the shitty general attitudes that people in the city and surrounding areas seem to harbor and perpetuate. Fuck the Bronx, fuck Harlem, fuck Yonkers, fuck Long Island, fuck half of Brooklyn, fuck NYC.

Then there's the awful traffic I have to deal with every time I pass through NY to get to PA and the fact that NY drivers are assholes.

I've heard mixed things about New Orleans

Some people say it's the shit, others say it's a shithole

Either way I'd like to go there for Mardi Gras, tons of free booze and titties everywhere

I'd hate to go there for Mardi Gras personally, that's where it gets most of it's bad rep. Way too many people for that.

I loved Nola when I was there as a kid, pre Katrina I'm pretty sure, so I was real young and my city judgment skills were probably not what they are today. I'm planning on going to Mardi Gras in 2017 tho. Nola is right around the corner, bout a 4 or 5 hour drive, but I have yet to make the trek since moving up to my current city.

Completely unrelated, but I'm also less than an hour from spirit of the Suwannee music park and I hadn't made it out there until this year, and my fucking God do I regret not getting out there sooner, especially since I'm likely moving within the year. I feel like I'm gonna feel the same way about Nola once I finally get back there. I hope, anyway, seems amazing and very much unlike any city in the world.

Yeah it sucks living here sometimes but the magical moments still far outweigh the terrible ones.  And this place offers things that you just can't really get anywhere else...the food, the culture, the endless amount of activities.  Granted, there are also a lot of things you may want/need in your life that you can't get here...nature, space/room, cheap anything. 

Tripping here to begin with is fucking stoopid though.  It has to be one of the worst environments to trip in, especially for someone that's not familiar with the lay of the land.

Traffic does suck but 99% of the time you don't have to deal with it.  The mass transit here is second to none and for the most part is very reliable.  Cruising around on a bike is a pretty nice way to get around too. 

All that said, I love it here, for the most part, and don't want to live anywhere else.  Yet.

I talked to a US tour guide who told me that New Orleans is a diverse and upcoming place with lots of opportunities in the hospitality industry and is generally a happening place.

From New Orleans I Love it full of culture good food & people but I hate the laws corrupt systems I had to move they say Louisiana has the most incarceration rate per capita in the world . Great place to visit but I wouldn't live in that city
