Thinking about taking a road trip to New Orleans
    #6701338 - 03/22/07 10:44 PM (17 years, 10 days ago)

What do you guys think. Is it too soon to go over there to do some site seeing and...what ever people do when they go to N.O.? I heard some people say that they wouldn't go just yet due to the security issues.

Anyone live around the area who could give me some insight?

I haven't been there in ages but if you do decide to go I would be very aware and watch your back. I would love to go down there, not so much to party, but just to see to believe just what kind of a mess it is in.

That's essentially the reason I want to visit the place. I can see the pictures on the news and whatnot, but seeing it first person is a totally different experience. It will be a total awakening simply because I live in the panhandle of Florida and the same thing could happen to my town during any hurricane season.

Stick to the French Quarter and you should be fine. I was there a couple weeks ago but only passing through on way to the airport. It is still pretty tore up in parts but the touristy areas are fine and security is good there.

Yeah I heard the French Quarter got away pretty much unscathed. I just didn't know what other cool things there would be to do there (that are safe). I don't want to spend most my time taking tours of devastated areas. What all did you do when you were there?

The weekends are still good times. The weekdays are a lot slower. As far as security, if you stay to the main streets you are fine. My company sends me there all the time on business. I love it. Check out Category 5. They are a cover band that plays at the Bourbon Street Blues Bar. The 2 girls that sing for them are really good vocalist.

I agree. I would also like to see the things that never make it the news broadcasts.
