A doctor's first hand account of New Orleans conditions
    #4615427 - 09/03/05 05:47 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Don't know if this has been posted before. If it has... read it again.

This was sent to me by a friend. This Dr. wrote this to his sister:

E

I just got back from helping in N.O. at the Superdome. TV news reports
look like Disneyland compared to how it really is at "ground zero." They
couldn't get any doctors to go because people were shooting at the
helicopters and it wasn't a safe place. Unfortunately, all of the people
who didn't evacuate and had to go to the dome were the poorest of the
population and also the sickest with the most medical problems. We saved
a lot of them but we had to be evacuated around 2am this morning because
a couple of medics were shot by civilian snipers. There are about 20,000
people still stranded in the dome and no way to get them out because of
the flooding. The toilets don't work, the lights don't work, the air
conditioning doesn't work, they can't smoke or drink and people are just
feeling like caged animals led to slaughter.
Dead people are floating in the streets everywhere. They are expecting
the death toll to be more than 50,000. There were three rapes in the
dome yeasterday, one was a seven year old girl. Child molesters,
convicts and very desperate people who can no longer smoke, drink, or
watch Dr. Phil and Oprah. It is truly the wild wild west.

One of the civilians grabbed the M-16 of one of the MPs and shot
someone.
There are people being stabbed every so often. Babies being born in
front of everyone. People having seizures, hypertensive strokes, heart
attacks, etc. because we are out of supplies, IVs, medicine, breathing
treatments, etc.

No semblance of order whatsoever. A very desperate situation. There
were only three of us (doctors) there all day yesterday with about 10
medics but we were forced to evacuate early this morning because the
conditions had deteriorated so severely that it was not safe to be
anywhere around there.
I am in Lafayette now, working. The phone service is hit and miss and I
can only get internet from work. We cannot send any outgoing messages
sometimes.

Peace
AK

Can we get a link to this please? It sounds REALLY far-fetched that a doctor saw this, but noone's got it on the news yet. a 7 year old girl was raped, but NO other news agency talks about it. Guardsmen having their weapons stolen, but noone else mentions is. i'm not even saying that it's not possible, I just hven't heard it ANYWHERE else.

I've actually heard of several news agencies and people talking about rapes, and those of small children, expecially in the bathrooms.

Why would it be BS? What do you think is happening down there? Everyone is being nice and orderly and obeying the law? You must not be living on earth.

We're not supposed to take the news' word for it, but instead
you're suggesting we should pay heed to an uncited internet
chain letter that I have now received FUCKING TWICE from
different senders!?

Good thing that all my friends are also friends with this very
doctor.

If this is legit, please post your mail headers, feel free to
strip out the 5 layers of embedded >> from the forwards!

Thanks!

You tools just want to believe what you want to believe.

I like how everyone prefaces this with:

"I know where this email came from...I trust my friends
who sent it to me."

PS. Lafayette, LA is about halfway between NO and
Houston. It's good to see that a cardiac surgeon
from Lafayette is able to give us first hand accounts
of what's going on in New Orleans...or did he travel
through the storm to get to NOLA just so he could be
smack dab in the middle of hell? Magic, I tell ya!

furthermore, if Noviseer really did receive this from
a friend why would it have "been posted before"?

Does he have other friends with this shared acquaintance
that post on the boards?

Internet hoaxes rule!

So afoaf, do you beleive it's like Disney land down there right now?

I'm guessing you don't have access to a television.

On thursday, the live news was reporting that stuff as it was happening and then cut off to mississipi and press conferences. Even here guys listening to the police scanner heard the first hand reports of relief workers being shot at.

The Red Cross before the storm said that one that size heading towards such an area would be expected to kill 40-50 thousand.

I have to know if you have been watching the coverage or not. You sound like you are posting from Saturn.

You're missing the point. afoaf understands the situation in New Orleans.

The email in the original post is just fake...that's all. Even if it is a perfect impersonation of what a doctor in NO would actually write...it still rings of fakness.

It's cool that you at least acknowledge it could be realistic of an actual letter! Thank you.

I get concerned when I see people acting like katrina was faked, as if Hollywood pre filmed everything we are seeing and hearing on the live news and that they are all paid actors. People aren't going to want to do what they can to help if they don't think its really happening.

I was in a devasting hurricane in '95 and what pissed me off the most was how down played the actual damage and loss of life was. People quickly blew it off when that isalnd despareley needed assistance.

We are so use to watch hollywood disaster films, I think people have become desensitized and it's hard for people to take it in how real this stuff is or feel for it as if it is real .

Your reading comprehension and grasp on reality is
waning, buddy.

do you really think 50,000 people are going to die?

you are absolutely beyond reason if that's the case.

I understand there was a natural disaster.

I understand that many unfortunate people have
been left stranded in a flooded area for days without
relief.

I have seen the reports of looting, violence and
the like.

Do I think it's disneyland? No, don't be fucking ridiculous.

Do I think the entire area is swept with lawless gangs
killing and raping everything in site, shooting down
helicopters and blowing shit up? No.

And, back to THE ORIGINAL POINT OF THE POST:

THIS IS NOT A REAL EMAIL.

If it is, Noviseer can send me the original with the
headers intact and I will verify.

Until then, this is just another stupid opportunist trying
to stir up emotions and drama around something that's
plenty dramatic on it's own.

Suckers, the lot of you.
