Mainstream news loves to promote news that promotes fear.

If that was occurring, every news station would report it in order to boost ratings, compete with other stations who are all airing the same story, and to promote fear which puts the consumer into a frenzy state.

If anything, mainstream news would be exaggerating violence, not suppressing it.

No way to tell for sure. I dont think there are going to be 50k deaths. Probably something like 10k.

Was this posted before or after news footage of Saks 5th avenue ablaze?
Right now, i am talking to many friends via text message who have just now gotten out of areas like New Orleans, Biloxi, and Mobile. Looting is happening all over, but in New Orleans, there are gangs of people roaming around, committing armed robbery of other victims and in one case, a relief truck was hijacked. People are shooting at helicopters, national guards, police and each other.
Right now, there are absolutly no consequences for anything, legally. It is pure anarchy down there.
Also, there have been a few news agencies that have reported about the amount of rapes.

And I find it comical that people will buy any
turd floating down the email river as outright
fact without any citation, source or proof but
the news must be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS.

Doesn't anyone remember all that bullshit about mars being the size of the mood? I tried to tell people there's no way it could be right, and they'd tell it was because it said so in the email.

The news has not reported that national guardsmen have
been stripped of their rifles.

Further, I've seen no confirmed reports of snipers shooting
at medics at the superdome or that medics at the superdome
where evacuated at any time.

This is a cobbled together collection of likely events...dead
bodies, the infirm dying in the heat...as well as a collection
of trumped up untruths.

Be reasonable and discerning people.

Mind candy, I think they are not watching the news. Just now they had a doctor on who got out who said 8-10 people a day were dying in one of the hospitals alone. It will be a long time before the final body count comes out.

They were showing guys going through parts of Ridel which is NE of NO. The flood waters finally receded there and their job is to go through and mark off which buildings are safe and not safe to go in and of those safe, how many dead bodies need to be picked up from them. The were showing them spray painting the numbers. One home had 5 alone.

They just must not be watching the live news that much if at all. It doesn't matter. People who care are doing what they can, staying informed, raising awarness and donating time or personal resources. That's life.

Consider this mind candy as I am confused too by some of these response's. Maybe those who seem cold and distant, actually are distanced from the live reports coming out on the news and OR maybe they have deeply feeling hearts and just can't handle the reality of it and need to start whacking away at what they can't deal with as a means of coping trying to make sense of this. I dunno. :shrugs:

I've had scanners and MSNBC on for 48 hours.

I'll be happy to wager that the death toll does
not exceed 5,000, let alone 50,000.

ofcourse those exact situations might not be reported or happend

maybe it wasnt a sniper on a roof with a rifle/ but a guy with a gun at the end of the street, same thing. Yesterday in the convention center Geraldo Rivera was talking to this cop and he basically mentioned everything in that letter more or less

This whole event is very odd. The news isnt acting the same, as well as the measures, precautions and post-disaster guidelines that arent being followed.
There is nothing outrageously worse about this hurricane than hurricanes like andrew, georges, and fredrick. The biggest fuck up has been the response , and i mean the lack of it, by the national guard and other authorative agencies which deal with post-disaster situations.
The news isnt acting the way it should for some reason, because I agree with you they would be all over some of this stuff. Even Yahoo news is playing it down. but if you do a news search for "police shot in head in New Orleans", im sure you will find a nice article I read. The letter probably was fake, but what is more ridiculous? believing a fake letter? or disbeleiving the possible, because someone wrote a fake letter?

The point was, the letter was a fake and most
of the content is false.

You can't simultaneously argue that the letter
is wholly correct and then say that maybe they
didn't happen EXACTLY like that.

THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT

You're downplaying it more than the news is.
Maybe the letter was fake, that doesn't mean the content of it is too.
Yeah, mainstream news loves to promote fear. But they also love to distort the facts.
Of course people are going to fucking exaggerate.
But if you were in a disaster and situation like that you would probably think it's the end of the world too.
Based on all first-hand accounts I have heard, it is the law of the jungle down there right now. You can downplay that and play it off all you want, but are you there?
