So...I'm going to assume that I do have a humidity problem...I'm going to dump all my perlite and start afresh...then I'm going to case the cakes if this does not correct the problem. And if its still not fixed then oh boy...

need more info like how long those cakes have been around, did you end case them , is that direct sunlight, etc. but off hand i doubt the perlite is directly to blame. your symptoms sound more like a very dry cake.
try end casing w/damp verm. and insert drinikng straws full of water in it.

Hippie3...thanks for the help. The cakes are little less than a month old. I am using the double casing method (moist verm on top and bottom)...I may try the straw method if this flush doesn't go well~which it seems b/c I have literally hundreds of tiny shrooms with very dark colored caps (I'm assuming they are all aborts) all over the place. Anyhow...I guess time will tell and will give me some experience...later daze...

where are the straws placed? in a crumbled culture, with perlite/potting soil on the bottom, crumbled mycelium cakes in the middle, and potting soil on top, which layer should the straws go to?

also, where can i get crushed oyster shell and lime?

The straws are place down the center of the cake, not completely through it, then you use a dropper to fill the straw with water when needed.
