yeah, that's another issue. My yields have always sucked as well. This is my third batch....my second batch I got nearly 1/4 oz from 3 cakes and the potency wasn't bad but other than that I have not had any success with yeilds or potency. I always use BRF & Verm jars and birth them directly into the terrarium usually after 4 weeks. The humidity in the terrarium is constantly 93-94%. I have an aquarium pump providing fanning and I do not manually fan. Maybe I am leaving them in the jars for too long and they get dried out before they go in the terrarium....could that affect yeild/potency? Should I dunk after I birth? I am getting pretty frustrated with the whole thing right now. I mean it would be one thing if the shrooms didn't grow at all but it is even more frustrating that they do grow but with horrible yields and potency...it is alot harder to pin down the cause of the problem.

What is your fruiting temperature? Higher temperatures can decrease potency and hinder yields(unless, of course, you are using an Asain strain). I don't feel that the cakes would be too dry. Fruiting is more reliant on air humidity then water in the cakes. Have you tried your hand at casing yet? results?

You should try casing, no you must try casing with straight verm. Don't put all cakes in the same container, and you wont need to worry with terrariums either, just some simple small rubbermaid containers with lids. If you leave a cake in a jar to long then case it, it's a plus you will rehydrate during casing and it will definitly be totally colonized. But yes dry cakes will effect yeilds and I think your humidity is a bit high in the terrarium. But I still don't know why the potency wasn't there?? Anyone?? Good luck and don't give up it's a patient hobby........

I just started my first experiment in casing. I cased in 7" x 7" aluminum trays with a layer of wet perlite on the bottom, then a layer of crumbled colonized BFR & Verm cakes, then a layer of wet sterlized Jiffy Mix. It has already started to pin...with a few mushrooms already harvested. But I am not getting a very big even flush so I am not too encouraged. Besides, growing the shrooms is not my problem...it is growing decent size shrooms in decent yields with decent potency that eludes me. I know that casing is supposed to increase the yield but does it really increase the potency all that much? BTW, my fruiting temperature was not very high 70-80 degress farenheit. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

its definitely not my tolerance. I have only had shrooms a handful of times and I haven't shroomed in over a year. Any suggestions on a good strain?

you just were unlucky, the amount of goodies in homegrown varies batch to batch flush to flush. shit happens.
