As a former riflery instructor I felt the need to point out that the shooter did not have as much knowledge/training as Thayendanegea stated, mainly due to his choice of weapons and his strategy. This is important to understanding the story because it shifts the shooter away from being a trained terrorist and more to him being someone with a mental disorder that went crazy. BTW, the 7.62x39 is more lethal that the 5.56x45 (1653 ft-lbs vs 1295 ft-lbs respectively), and an AK-47 would be a far better gun for the enclosed environment that he was shooting in.

150 yards, my ARs could do 4" groups at 400 and my remington can shoot 1" at
800 if I use had loads, maybe 3" groups with factory ammo.

The arab conquests were not religious in nature. The arab rulers imposed a tax on non muslims and they liked the tax so much they prevented people from converting to islam. In fact most middle eastern countries did not become muslim majority countries until the 15th century or later, hundreds of year after the start of muslim rule.

Your silly little map also belies the christian conquests in the new world if you're gonna play that game.

I didn't even see the Battle of Tours on his map, the farthest north they ever got into France and the most critical battle of the Umayyad expansion that repelled them from northern europe permanently. The muslims ignored europe pretty much up until the Ottomans invaded in the 15th century. Spain lived pretty much in relative peace until the reconquest in the 14th and 15th centuries unlike what he projects. He fails most blatantly in recognizing the carnage of the wars muslims fought in the east.

Regarding the crusades, there were far more battles than the 10 he posted. He completely misunderstands the crusades. The crusades had the veneer of taking back the holy lands but what it came down to was plundering and bloodshed. It must have slipped his mind when the crusaders sacked and pillaged the christian city of constantinople for three days in 1204.

I am wondering if you feel the same way about tobacco, alcohol. When you read the statistics, even though guns have the purpose of killing, Alcohol kills way more people and is much more of a burden on our society (in terms of healthcare costs, mental health effects, law enforcement, etc..) than guns. The same can be said about tobacco, but 10 fold - and quite literally. Its a sad statistic to use, but tobacco kills more people globally every year than the Nazis killed jews in all of world war two. The tobacco industry on a yearly basis, kills as many people as Hitler was responsible for in his entire lifetime, and nobody bats an eye. Yet someone shoots and kills 50 people and the whole world cringes - Dont get me wrong - I think we should be cringing at both, but dont you?

Looking at those statistics, and when you see that guns pale in comparison to human life lost via the aforementioned drugs, I am continually shocked at the hypocrisy of turning a blind eye to a bigger problem - again in terms lifeloss and societal burdens. If I was trying to save lives, Tobacco, then Alcohol would be my fist two targets. Then probably obesity, before I ever touched actual weapons.
