Co-Worker Found Dead :(
    #1830084 -

I dont know if anyone saw this or now, but it was sent to me and I thought that I would share it.

FEELING UNAPPRECIATED?? "WORKER DEAD AT DESK FOR 5 DAYS"
(New York Times 1-22-03)

Bosses of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no one noticed
that one of their employees had been sitting dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS before anyone asked if he was feeling okay.

George Turklebaum, 51, who had been employed as a proof-reader at a New York firm for 30 years, had a heart attack in the open-plan office he shared with 23 other workers. He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday morning when an office cleaner asked why he was still working during the weekend.

His boss Elliot Wachiaski said: "George was always the first guy in each
morning and the last to leave at night, so no one found it unusual that he
was in the same position all that time and didn't say anything. He was
always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself."

A post mortem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. Ironically, George was proofreading
manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died. You may want to give your co-workers a nudge occasionally.

*Moral of the story: Don't work too hard. Nobody notices anyway!*

Dont you start to smell funny after a few days or so? I would think they would have noticed the smell.

Yeah you do, but if it was cold he might not have smelled so bad.

"had been sitting dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS before anyone asked if he was feeling okay."

I'm sorry, i know this is terrible, but is that not just a little bit funny?

Ask him if he was ok? He's dead!
Do you not reckon he would have started to smell by that stage?
I have this image of someone walkin' past and slappin' him on the back as they are leavin' the office and the dead guy slowly tippin' onto his computer screen. Sick, i know but i've a very active mind.
I wonder what comments were made about the gasses escapin' from the corpse? Apparently great almighty rippin flatuence is meant to erupe from a stiff as the digestive tract begin's to rot. Not a pleasnt thought, eh? "There goes old George again! He's sure had a hearty lunch! Cor strike a light guv'ner!"

There was another tragic story in an English rag last week about a love sick guy in some hardware factory. Unrequited love, an'tha', you know? So this guy ties a clothes line around his neck ties the end round a lamppost and drove of fast in his car, neatly decapitatin' himself!

Its a mixed up, muddled up, shook up World we live in, eh?

Decapitating yourself is just insane. There are better ways I would think.

It was a hardware store, the dude went in and bought the clothes line - tied one end to his neck, the other to the post and hit the accelerator.

'was quite a while ago, I think it has come back to light 'cos he apparently learnt how to do it on an Internet suicide site - they said at the inquest.

If anything it's just a sign that capatalism is turning us into machines. It's just plain depressing when something like this happens.

No i'm pretty sure this was recent. The clothes line was symbolic as he bought it with a staff discount no less from the store he worked at. Even goin' as far as to get the check out girl he fancied from afar to ring it up on the till for him. Then he left the bill slip with his note. Apparently cut the girl up quite bad as she had no idea he felt so deeply for her. Not quite as cut up as him though, eh?
I may have made the part up about him gettin' her to ring it up for him but thats the way it should have been. Well its the way my overactive mind sees it at least.

EDIT: For spellin'.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

It is pretty funny in a way, him just sitting there all week like that, without anyone even paying hima bit of notice...you'd think someone would be perceptive enough to notice what I assume was a complete lack of movement on his part for the whole work week. Sad in a way, though, he must not have had anyone to go home to who would have been on this sooner...except maybe a very hungry cat!

This could actually make him famous, spawning a host of references to him - "Hey man, get to work, don't be a Turklebaum" or "Jesus Christ, you people sure are lazy, bunch of fuckin' Turklebaums is what you are".
