Keep us posted especially when it fruits OP! Keep follow the good (current) advice and ignore the old dated BS and you will end up with more than you can possibly eat. Next up: Learn agar, grains and monotubs and then you will be set. It's all very easy and newbie friendly at this point just follow the tek.

Thank you, I've read that and understand the concept, what I don't get is why a vivarium during winter wouldn't work.

The heat from the water below would rise and if the temperature is low enough on the outside, between 5-10 degrees Celsius lower, the pressure exchange would be great.

For those of us who don't have a grow light and are in winter, this would work, no?

What is being suggested and what I've done is to fruit in a room of 18 degrees Celsius, relying on the cake and a room heater for the pressure gradient. Which would work just fine, but I think a vivarium would yield greater results, because of the control of heat, humidity, air flow and in winter, dew point.

This is the cake while it was in the aquarium:

This is without misting at all, I suspect that all that was needed was a slightly increased airflow:

Ah, gotcha :awesome:

Just make sure things don't get too wet either. Invites contaminants

sorry but why the fuck are you still thinking this? are you even reading the responses you're getting?
Try to explain to me why you think you know what mushrooms want when you havent even completed a grow yet? just doesnt make sense to me and I'm starting to think you're just trolling.

You arent the first person to have this revelation. People before you have experimented with these ideas, and we are presenting you with the most up to date and result-proven methods. If you want to experiment, go for it. Dont post about it though because youll get shit on. Making a "vivarium" is not practical and will harbor contaminants very easily, which in this hobby are the end all-be all. You will soon learn this if you do not heed the warnings bro!

I mean a mini vivarium with only plants in the water, if anything.

I'm doing what you all said, it's in the SGFC, I'm just asking, that's all.

I had to look it up to see what those are... and they are pretty awesome. It would be cool to have a few mushrooms popping up in one

But no.. they would not do well in one.

Update:

Slim pins, drilled more holes. Also pinning on sides only, looking at sprinkling casing on center.

its good. I used it for a long time. but it is dated and some of the stuff has been improved on. for instance, there is a whole section on jar lid filters for grain jars. I don't even use filters anymore. but yeah, they still work...

You just leave them on loose, or??

yeah, ~1/4" loose one piece plastics work really great. I don't even loosen them until after the first shake. Only the lids that already have holes have filters. None of my newer lids do.

I use metal lids with bands. The lids are upside down, so the rubber can't make a seal. this allows the GE. after inoculation, I tighten them down, shake them up real good, then loosen the lid enough until you can wiggle the lid around but the band doesn't lift off.
