Land of the free never meant a open door free for all. Liberals don't know US immigration history.

B-b-b but we should let everyone in without checking their criminal records and documents who cares if they're rapists or serial killers they're free men (what about women?) at the end of the day. Being a convicted rapist doesn't mean anything at all!!

Stop listening to Trump. These immigrants aren't anymore likely to be rapists or criminals than any other. The fact is the bad elements are gonna come here no matter what. It's shitty policy to decide we have to kick everyone out because we don't know if they rapists or not.

This kind of rhetoric is DEMOGOGERY. It's irresponsible and dangerous. Illegal immigration is not a huge problem in this country. The fact is the illegals that are here are part of the US economy. Kicking them out may have benefits, but it also has huge negative consequences.

"Not a huge problem" you are so clueless

much of it is about style. I would prefer for as many people as possible to be able to go where they please, because I think most people would only become enlightened by novel and unprecedented experiences of travel.

Now, yes it's true that there are bombers and fanatics and what not ( smugglers, but many of us here have personally taken advantage of what they do ) and that when a bunch of people get together and call themselves a country, they're bound to become aware of such things and try to put a stop to them, which is fine, but we've also got to consider the benefits of having easier and broader communities.

I mean, on the one hand, you have a path which leads to continuous exclusivity of living space, where the human race is sectioned off by nations, become increasingly more isolated from each other, thus with less intentions of actually working together and benefiting from societal collaboration.

On the other, there's the dissolution of national boundaries, in which millions of people find ways to engage with each other in completely unpredictable, infinitely varied ways. Seeing as I actually have faith in the human race ( which many republicans and politically minded people of all sorts have completely abandoned with their rhetoric ), I do believe that more interaction between different kinds of races, ethnicities and nationalities would inevitably lead to an evolution of human consciousness towards love and understanding.

However, because it's not fair to make a population unsafe just for an ideal, I don't think that the U.S. should do away with all immigration regulations. It just shouldn't be hard as fuck to become a citizen. Make it easier... allow for this place to be the melting pot which it is so capable of being. The U.S. has got it's stove top lit, but you can't make fondu without cheese, and who only wants cheddar? We need pepper jack, swiss, a little jalapeno to go with it. One day, once people have really learned how to come together, nations will probably be more like sports teams, or your homeroom class from high school. Just a way of saying "this is where we come from, this is where we meet" but not an overarching system of authority.

The US should only bring in immigrants when there's a shortage of labor, today we have over 50 million US citizens that are NOT working, we don't need more people in the US.

There's a reason why Trump is #1 in the polls, US citizens don't want immigrants coming into the US, they know it hurts their standard of living.

I think that's a selfish way to view the world. As if being a part of the club means you get to decide that this part of the world, quite literally this land, is just off limits to people in other places. What if it was you in that other part of the world, and for whatever reason you just wanted or needed to get to here? It's a form of saying "I own this land, all other people can just disappear". It's unrealistic and doesn't confront the human aspect of travel. People are on the move, can't stop 'em, never will. And nor should we try. Travel is a good thing.

People, populations, are more than just digits followed by the tags of employed or unemployed, they're a continuously changing, shifting and evolving entity. Let it be! Just let it grow, there's no reason to neurotically implement forces of control on that which needs to be more like a forest, and less like a close-cropped lawn. People are just afraid of nature, so they don't want to let in the natural flow, but inevitably we will have to work together.

I agree that some immigration regulations are important, but fear-mongering and worry about "jobs" and "illegal aliens" is simply turning a blind eye to natural conditions of freedom while getting smacked upside the head by the rhetoric stick.

Nobody's saying people can't visit other parts of the world legally, but that can't take up permanent residency, that's the big difference.

Who pays for illegals when they get sick?  Who pays for their child's education?  Who pays for their housing and food when they can't afford it?  Yes, it would be US citizens!!!

You are spewing hippy pie in the sky theoretical nonsense that is baseless in reality.  US citizens do NOT want to see their country turn into a third world shithole, that means we must have borders and strict immigration laws with enforcement.

"Just let it grow"

Yeah, let it grow into some Central or South American hell hole?  I don't think so.

It's not baseless, it's just a different base than where you're coming from. I'm not thinking about this strictly legally or fiscally, i'm thinking about it based on ethics and freedom. It's simple rigidity and narrow-mindedness if you can't at least see the value in approaching a topic from multiple points of view.

I agree that there needs to be some regulations involved with checking the right papers, making sure that people don't have a history of violence and militant affiliations, but if someone crosses the boarder, I think they should still have a chance at gaining citizenship. If all of those "illegal" people you're talking about were citizens, then they would be chipping in on the payment for healthcare and roads and all other government functions, but instead you're arguing for citizenship to remain out of reach for them so that ...we don't have to pay for them? It's just completely rebounded logic.

I guess what you're saying is that they should all be deported... well sure that might make the ledger balance over time, but we would also be losing laborers, businesses, contributors, new ideas, a more diversified culture and countless other things. Not to mention, what makes you so sure that any institution could accomplish the task of deporting millions of people without infringing upon human rights and going way over the top? Do you really trust law enforcement to handle something that delicate? Instead, couldn't it just be easier to become a citizen, so that those people would no longer have to live in fear and could chip in for paying the ol' taxman?

You do realize we have a massive wage and unemployment problem in the US?  What are you going to tell young Hispanic and black US citizens who can't find a job to save their lives that you want illegal workers flooding into their nation? Tough shit.

What are you going to tell US citizens that make only minimum wage and can't support their families because the labor market is so flooded with available workers?  That you still want more illegals coming to the US because it makes you feel better?

Illegals and their children cost US taxpayers over $140 billion per year, that's not even counting the loss jobs and wages. We don't have enough jobs for US citizens, we DO NOT need more poor people in the US, we already have too many with NO solutions.

Please stop it with the hippy shit. If they're illegal immigrants they're not allowed here at all. There's legit Mexicans that are going through the process of legal immigration but these just skip line. Not only that if you look at the drug cartels if they went through a legal process they wouldn't even have a chance to get in what do you think they would give a shit? Just because they illegally cross the border doesn't mean you should give them free citizenship.

We have globle culture. The idea of free movementis destroying Europe right now.

Diversity is not a virtue, it's a retarded ideal that was forced on kids at least since my childhood

Maybe I don't want to live in some crime filled diverse culture

Wait, that is what we have. No community at all
