Most physicists today are all searching for that Grand Pattern, some even want to call it "God" (eg. Michio Kaku, Douglas "Doogie" Hofstadter, etc.).  Few physicists (actually none that I know of, but I haven't read everything by everyone) have turned the mirror on themselves and examined their motivations.  I think MM would agree with me in that the physics community would benefit greatly by delving into philosophy a little more.  Though MM probably doesn't agree with my perspective on patterns and whatnot.

Sorry for steering this thread off-topic.

When I was around 13, I discovered the counter culture and wore black and dyed my hair well,black at that time. and my dad said to me "wow,you're different just like everyone else" it really made me think. I'm 20 now, still dying my hair,getting tatoos and piercings,but its no longer to be "different" now it is just a part of who I am at this point in my life. physical appearance isnt exactly what i think about when i think of conforming though,to me, to conform would to become christian,but a house,get married and have some kids,the great american dream that i dont want.changing into something that everyone else thinks i should be but that does not make me happy. life can have patterns with out being socially acceptable. i get up,brush my teeth,put on scrubs,start my car what now. I dont see how conformity has anything to do with patterns? I would say i am a non-conformist simply because I live my like for me,whether i am accepted by society or not.I do what I like,look the way i think looks good,and do the recreational activities i think are fun, and none of it is accepted in this close-minded society.

Princess, I'm not responding to your post in this way to make you feel bad, but I'm responding in this way because I haven't yelled at people lately to break their paragraphs up.

I thought I figured out a way to stop having to yell at people because I thought I would just copy and past the post and break it up myself.

Forget it. Too many people post long paragraphs, and I don't have time to break them all up.

No one has to break up their paragraphs on my behalf (but fireworks_god may beg to disagree on his own behalf), but I can't read those long-assed paragraphs, and this is notice:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Frog cannot read long-assed paragraphs because there are way too many fucking words and her brain can't assimilate the information contained therein.

If you want Frog to read your post, break the paragraph up into 2 to 3 sentences per paragraph, otherwise, Frog's brain will implode. That would be an impolite thing to do to Frog.

Okay, I'm done.

In fact, from now on, when someone posts a long paragraph, I'm just going to respond by posting the following: LPA! (Long Paragraph Alert!)

Then, if the poster is so inclined, he/she can edit by breaking the paragraph up. If the poster is not so inclined, I will assume that the poster doesn't really want ME to read it, and I will avoid the long-assed paragraph.

there are occasionally people who find/make? "new paths" - I feel that these are the true non-conformists..

but of course, everybody conforms on some level - do you blink? yeah its hurts when you don't doesn't it?
