Southern CA: Very fragile ink cap?
    #23079163 -

Hello again. I see a lot of these around and I'd like to know more precisely what they are. Any help would be appreciated.

Habitat:
In an orchard on old horse manure fertilizer.

Gills:
Dark, lightly or not attached.

Stem:
White hollow smooth, paper thin. 1/4 in diameter, ~3in tall.

Cap:
~1 in diameter. Turning into ooze. Visible ridges on top.

Spore print color:
The caps were turning into a dark ooze, no chance to get a spore print.

Other information:
Mushroom is extremely fragile, probably popped up this morning and is disintegrating before noon. 2nd picture shows the hollow stem.

I believe those are a Coprinopsis sp.  Other than that, you'll need better advice and most likely a microscope.

Thanks, I actually do have a pretty powerful microscope. It might make a good science experiment some time, but I'd need to know more about what to look for

Check out the microscopy forum for the "how to look for" questions, and also post a request for a good key to the inky caps for the "what to look for".

Just make sure to get hold of a young specimen and dry it before it dissolves.
It's sometimes actually a feat to even get them home before they turn into goo.

They might of been Coprinopsis sect. Lanatuli (With species around C. lagopus), but they are a bit too deliquesced to really do anything with. Important micro features are spores, structure of the veil on the cap, basidia and cystidia on the gills.
