Anyone know someone who's scammed insurance?

I knew this guy who would intentionally get into accidents as a pedestrian to make money. Granted his last gig ended up with him needing major surgury, forgot what for exactly but he had a major scar a cross his stomach. But he also made bank, like 300k or something ridiculous
I actually was in an accident where this bitch hit me while I was on my bike and broke my wrist, which needed to be casted for almost a year, and while it wasn't intentional if I had needed surgury on my wrist I could've sued and won probably around 300k. Instead for a broken wrist and some bad looking road rash I got 28k out of the deal, after lawyer and hospital fees were payed.
But damn, I'm just thinking about this... Like if someone fucked up and injured me, and I needed surgury... I would get bank, just for a little bit of suffering. Although my lawyer also told me it depends on the drivers insurance policy and how much they cover other people's injuries.
Thoughts?

Well I lost my left foot in a road accident and got 100.000 euro out of it. That's not much for chronic pain and the freaking hell that I went through after that. This can go horribly wrong and destroy your life.

Yes I know of scam involving an insurance company.
The insurance company royal fucked this guy who got injured and gave him a ridicules settlement. It all was so ironic. This guy was riding his bike and a woman in a car ran into him resulting in minor abrasions and a broken wrist that took almost a year to heal.
First get gets fucked by the woman who hits him, and enjoys a smile because her "auto insurance will cover it".
Next, the injured guy, who is probably quite naive goes out and hires a lawyer. Now the lawyer, under the pretense of protecting his clients interests ultimately makes a quick bundle of easy cash.
Next, the insurance company royally fucks the victim and fucks around for as long as they are able to ensure the legal bill for the victim has been significantly jacked up enough. Then toss out a ridicules offer to settle.
The victim, in need of money by being unable to work takes the table scraps.
Can you figure out who I am talking about ..buddy....are your ears burning?
I don't know a lot of people that have fucked Insurance companies, but I sure do know a lot of people who have been totally fucked over royally by insurance companies.

What're you saying? That I shoulda got more money? Probably, but this was my first time collecting on insurance and yeah, I was pretty ignorant of the process.
And actually, most personal injury lawyers work for commission. They take a percentage of your winnings, around a third in most cases. If you don't get shit though there are no legal fees if you didn't go to trial.
Also, had I been working at the time I would've collected on a year's pay, on medical leave. Sucks I had just gotten fired like a couple weeks before that.

Bingo
Consider that most folks miss out on the great lawyer con game. If you have been injured why, when trying to seek remedy, should you have to incur the cost of your lawyer.

It's really state to state. In some states, juries award way more than other states. It also varies county to county largely along political lines and how much the populace there values the dollar. Purposely getting hurt to get a personal claim is really stupid. A lot of serious injuries will never heal and no amount of money is worth the pain you may be in for the rest of your life.

Really depends on what lawyer you have. If you get pushed through the mill, that's true. If you have no idea what you are doing, getting full value for a personal injury claim is extremely difficult and you can't google it to figure it out since the information you would need is pretty much priced out. If you are low balled by the insurance company, you should go to trial. Granted, many firms out there would rather kick you to the curb rather than try the case since it's better to move on to more easy to settle cases rather than waste time with trial. However, that's not all firms. I'm seeing Progressive, State Farm, Geico, and Fred Loya all super low balling offers lately. If you are low balled, your only option is to get a lawyer. In addition, you would have no idea how to set up the case properly from a treatment perspective to maximize value.
- a personal injury lawyer.

Thank you for your response and yes, I totally agree with you on all well made points.
What I have personally seen, is that the insurance companies have a way of taking care of themselves as well. For example, if they have reason to believe that someone is intentionally filing fraudulent claims, and yet they can't prove it, they simply can make you fight them every inch of the way, and simply exhaust your money, time, and for the most part wear you down to a nervous wreck.
Unfortunately, for many insurance companies, not all, they assume that most, if not all, are trying to hose them for money.
I totally understand the need for a lawyer to assist ones in a legal battle. However I see it as both a blessing and a curse. The lawyer that you hire is still an officer of the court. and in my mind, a kind of exploitation is being done between a strong man - and a con man.
The strong man is the legal system, and the con man is your lawyer. Either way, win or lose, you are out of money. How can most people say they won in court, if thousands of their hard earned money was used to pay for their defense.
In my mind, if the accused is found not guilty, than the legal system (Crown) should have to pay the defendants legal bill.

Yeah, that is the idea being no fault insurance which, in theory, minimizes the lawyer's role. Like I tell my clients often, insurers would not be in business if they paid on all claims. What you say is true though about fraudulent claims--they will assign their special investigative unit to claims that they think are fraudulent. State Farm is leading the charge on this.

House insurance is to me a big scam by the insurance company. They often trick ( though homeowners ignorance) into over insuring the value of insurance on their home.
Say for example a guy buys a wonderful home in the country and pays One million dollars for the house. Often the insurance company will encourage him to take at least a one million dollar policy of damage, fire, or other perils on the property, knowing full well, in most cases that the house itself would not cost anywhere near that amount to replace.
As an example, the basement and land our not burned away in a fire.
