I wasn't focusing on the right or wrong aspects yet until I got a clear view of what swami was talking about. so the situations I used isn't my evidence saying why incest was right or wrong, but rather dealt with how far the word "harm" can go.

using the dictionary

"Harm is a kind of injury which connotes sorrow or a sense of evil; it may denote either physical hurt or mental, moral, or spiritual injury."

harm could fall anywhere yet the only REAL issue only genetics?? I was just trying to clairify things.

so what about psychological damage? what if it is a knock down of the old self esteem knowing that you sleep with your sister?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

exactly frog!! i was hoping someone would say this. that's my point..because we are trying define right or wrong for one act (incest) for many people, who have different emotions. people who may do things thinking something one minute, and feeling something else the next. sure the two adults could consent, but the mind can change. swami was asking about if it's damaging or unethical. well what if after the fact even though they consented one of them felt "bad" about it?? then it would be damaging. it all depends on the situation and the person.

this is why the question swami posed doesn't sit well with me. how can we give a definite answer??? if it's one thing I've learned in my very young life so far is that things rarely stay the same.

There is nothing morally wrong with falling in love with your brother or sister. It's when you bring a third party into it by means of having a child together that it becomes an ethical dilemna.

kiowatas- if two people sleep together theres a very good chance at least one of them will later regret it. So thats not really an argument against incest. And as for public opinion, theres a little something called discretion. just lock the door and close the window

Don't double-bag it - using two comdoms is actually less effective than one, because the material can rip itself open when its "stacked" like that...

Nothin' says lovin' like sex with your cousin - I believe thats how the saying goes.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with ANY two consenting adults sharing a sexual experience, as long as no one else is effected negatively. A pregnancy resulting from a incestuous sexual experience would be someone else (baby) being effected. As long as there is no baby, everyone is fine.

In fact, who are we to decide what genetic material is acceptable or not? If incest isn't allowed because of a geneticaly inferior baby - can we then go as far as outlawing certain unrelated couples from bearing children just because of the possibility of sub-standard genetics?

offspring resulting from even a brother and sister are most likely in absolutely no danger due to poor genetic material.
After generations? Yes. After generations the chances of rare defects breeding true grow into something real, because there hasn't been any new genetic material to temper the stock with.

But man. Inbreeding is a simple fact of our lives. Dogs, cats, corn, wheat, cows, horses, absolutely anything living that we have domesticated.. there's been a good bit of inbreeding that went in to that stock to get it to where it's at.

But for humans? So long as it's not a generational thing I'd bet my car and my computer that there'll probably be no genetic defects.. unless the family already has a strong history of something. in which case.. it may just breed true.

The issue at large here is social marale. If everyone admited how many times they have looked at a secound cousin they haven't seen for a while and said "wow, shes ...'grown up'. Brother/Sister is a whole diffrent story, and in my eyes it is just plain discusting. But thats just the way i feel about it and i have actually read that brother/sister behind-closed-doors sexual encounters are normal for pre-teens who have trouble with outside relationships. And that once they find partners the encounters are simply never spoken of again. Dont know exactly what southern state these people made such a study but i read it in my 10th grade health class. Anyway, i know alot of people who's first sexual encounter was with a 2nd or 3rd cousin. Not nesseraly intercourse but experienses where ignorant teens or pre-teens explore with a person of trust. As far as saying if its right or wrong, i think anything that might produce a retarded child is wrong to nature but to each there own.

PS: I always thought some of my cousins where hot :smile:
