Not everything can be explained by logic

What does this statement mean? Give an example, and explain why logic doesn't work.

I think the statement has truth when in reference to people's actions. Some people do irrational things, and they cannot be explained by logic.

I doubt anyone would say that the Universe works without logic...

It's Humans who exist on the sidelines. We live in a logical world, but create illogical situations for ourselves.

I'll give you some examples. (Swami, don't read.)

I think God wants me to be an attorney, to help people. Since my advertising ran out, and I couldn't afford to pay for it any more, I have run into several people, by chance, who retained me to represent them.

If it's true that God wants me to be an attorney, then of course God will supply me with people who need help, regardless of whether I have advertising out there or not.

I recall that there was a guy who showed that nothing can be proven absolutely true. If anybody knows who I'm talking about, let me know...I'd really like to read his stuff. I don't remember his name, or how exactly he went about it, but he claimed to have shown that even mathematical equations such as 2 + 2 = 4 can never be proven absolutely true.

One of my favortite logic traps is the sentance "This sentance is false," where the sentance is only true if it is false, and if it's false, then it's true.

But why does god cater to your specific needs. 40,000 children die of starvation every day. Where is this God? A woman is beaten in the U.S. every 15 seconds. Where is this God?

The way I see it, I'm not here to cure all of the world's woes. For one thing, there ain't enough of me to go around. I believe I was put here to help people in my capacity as an attorney. So if that is true, using illogic, then of course God will send people to me that need my help.

Logic is unreliable if it is contaminated by ignorance. Since all human beings suffer with varying degrees of ignorance, all human beings suffer the failings of impure logic. To dismiss logic on this basis is to throw the baby out with the bath water.

We must not think of ourselves as perfect beings observing an imperfect world. Instead, we must recognize without shameful regret that we are imperfect beings experiencing a perfect universe. We are imperfect because we suffer. Suffering is a subjective phenomenon dependent upon our ignorance. There is only the universal perfection with which we must come in tune if we wish to be happy, and help others bring an end to conflict.

The degree of our suffering is directly proportionate to the degree to which we cherish our own self.

Logic is a tool which, when applied meaningfully to
thoughts leads to conclusions (more thoughts).
It's a system that is experientially verifiable.
I think the key here is what do we mean by the
word "explained". Usually "explained" means to
apply a model to experience which accounts for
all the details of the experience - that is what
science is. The key factor for confusion might be
that applying logic might not be meaningful in
certain cases. e.g. how would u apply logic to
existance ? I mean, here I am, I know this experientially.
It's a truth. There is no need to apply logic to it.
I think I'm about to have an annuerism...  :crazy2:
