Cloning away from mutation question
    #21711012 - 05/22/15 03:33 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I have 2 varieties that I'm having issues with mutations. My question is if I choose a healthy normal looking fruit from a nice cluster that also has some mutated fruits, will that mutation gene still carry on? Or would I be better to clone a stand alone normal fruit? 2 questions I know lol

Depends. Many things people call mutations are simply deformitys often brought on by contams or poor conditions. Rosecombe for instance is not a mutation, more a warning of mild verticilium. Leucisim is a mutation. So are siamese mushrooms or tentacle protrusions. Those will usually carry on through cloning.

My cams alway throw out mutations like crazy and only on the first flush really, things like siamese, stem growing from the cap, double caps, shit like that. I think it was cause from my buddies lysol addiction while he did his transfers because he gave a jar to me and I'm still having issues after cleaning them up on agar. He also has mutant issues with them. The b+ also have what I think is a mutation issue but could be caused by some bacteria or something as you said before. The b+ tub is putting out a bunch of normal fruits now, it was all the initial growth that popped up that looked goofy, everthing that's been coming up since is normal

Yeah lysol can cause a lot of freaky shit, as can using uv lights. I usually avoid cloning stuff like that.

Best to just take some prints from some normal fruits and go that route then?

Yeah thats what I would do. I mean if you have a great looking cluster in a tub full of short bus then go ahead. But if there are fruits within the cluster that look like they missing a chromosome I usually avoid the whole thing at that point.

This is from that 5 month old b+ master from the fridge and if I remember right, the first and last time I grew these they did the same thing. So you would say no go with cloning from that cluster then?

Do you have a way to start from spores? Reset.
