The nature of language in dreams
    #2122169 - 11/19/03 10:43 AM (13 years, 20 days ago)

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I don't really know where to put this. I had a dream last night where I was in france, apprenticed to a famous french actor. He was showing me around his town, which was in a state of overpaced growth like many places in the world. He took me to the top of a grand old building, and told me to look down. he was talking to me the whole time, sharing wisdom and what not. look down there, every year I come up here and look at my town, and it looks more and more alien to me. New buildings springing up, old ones falling down, sprawl, etc. The building we were on actually began to collapse, and I had to grab onto a stronger piece of wood in order to not fall to my death. Later, while walking around town, the actor mentioned that we would have to learn English for the movie we were both going to be in. learn english? I thought, haven't we been speaking english this whole time?

No, french, he replied. then I thoght back on it, as I do now, and realized that we were communicating through thoughts throughout the entire dream. It was all direct mental telepathy. I realized this is exactly the way communication feels on shrooms, unhindered by language, thought to thought. Language becomes almost unneccesary, and the conversations my friends and I have become "And then... yea, you got it... yes! go arou... yea! the plants they... uh huh" etc. DMT does strange things to language as well, making it visually beheld with ayahuasca; when smoked, revealing that it is the stuff of which our world as experienced through our culture is composed. Research has shown that during the deepest REM sleep, levels of endogenous DMT are highest. Do you guys think these two things are related? Anyone have similar experience? Next time you dream, check out if you and the conversation partner are actually using your voices, because now that I think about it, i think this mental language is quite common in my dreams. It just took a dream about a foreign language for me to realize it.

i'm not sure if that makes sense.

DoctorJ's random observation:

they say you cant read in dreams, but its never been a problem for me. Some of the most interesting books I've ever read don't physically exist.

I too have experienced telepathy on shrooms.  Pattern knows all about this, dontcha bud? Not just the one time either..  it's a repeatable thing...  not that I do shrooms lots, but having conversations with others on shrooms doesn't really require a whole lot of words..

No one knows the worth of innocence till he knows it is gone forever, and that money can't buy it back. Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.

Not just the one time either.. it's a repeatable thing...

Just not repeatable enough to win a Swami Telepathy Challenge.

on shrooms i have experienced "telepathy" on 4 separate occasions, with up to 3 people at once. however, i usually dont like to call it telepathy because it inspires too much skeptism and it simply just isnt anything like the typical conception of telepathy. it is not exactly mind reading. it is as noviseer describes it, communication unhindered by inadequacy of language. your thoughts just flow together and total understanding is achieved between people. i find it works best in combination with spoken language. it allows you to relate any concept no matter how abstract or complex without even the slightest hint of misunderstanding with complete ease. language however is not necessary. mental communication can be achieved without speech at all, however in my experience it is usually not as complex. it is more emotional and spiritual than conceptual.

anyone who has experienced "telepathy" please post. we must share our experiences.
