What Would Happen If Robots Took All Our Jobs?
    #20889320 -

I foresee a time in the near future where robots have replaced almost nearly every single job on this earth.

They won't just replace minimum-wage or labor workers. I also see either robots or software replacing high-education jobs such as pharmacists, financial advisors, business analysts, accountants, surgeons, research and lab scientists, teachers, etc.

Think about it. Why the fuck would you need to spend $100K to hire a pharmacist or a business accountant if you have some robot or software program to do all the work for you?

I also see them replacing other jobs such as flight attendants, farmers, housekeepers, even chefs and babysitters, etc. thereby replacing the concept of housewives and motherhood altogether.

Even the robots will be built and repaired by robots, and only a small percentage of society will be programming and inventing these robots.

What do you think would happen to society, if suddenly 95% of jobs were replaced by robots, and the vast majority of people became unemployed?

Would the people riot? Would there be a good social welfare program in place by then? Would the hippie movement come back and people desire to live in a less mechanical society? By the time robots replace everybody, will everybody just be stuck in a cubicle living some alternate reality through Google Glasses or whatever, like in the Matrix all day long, so it won't matter anyway?

Discuss.

Be a consultant like me and you don't have to worry about a robot taking your precious job.

LOL. I don't know what kind of consulting work you do, but consulting work could easily be taken over by a robot or a software program.

Chances are, you already use a software program to do your work, and there's only a limited number of options you can give clients. The "robot" simply takes you out of the equation and does all the work instead of you.

I'm a commercial real estate development finance consultant.  Good luck with a robot on that one!  LOL!

Okay, then I know for a fact that you definitely already use software programs to "consult" your clients. Really, your job is already done by a robot, you simply do the monkey work of inputing the numbers into the software program and answering the phones, and then give clients several options that they can choose from.

You are easily replaceable by a robot.

Think about it. They've recently developed a mobile app that replaces financial advisors. What makes you think the same thing couldn't easily happen for real-estate?

Yeah no shit, but what would the social dynamics and economic system look like, is what I'm saying.

I'm hoping some Republicans like zappa, Pris, and Gilgamesh chime in on this. :evildog:

we'd have to demand free education from the robots, then liberal art degrees for all!1

It pretty much exists now to be honest. I mean humans behave like robots given the chance. If however the hypothetical machine world came into existence, we will find that iRobot has great meaning.

Or with robots doing everything, we would either fall into hedonism... Or we would focus more on research and furthering the cerebral components of humanity, making sure we get everyone educated and focused, better health care perhaps, resolving the resource problem. Practical solutions could start to come into place.

I don't think it's easy to say. Technology is a neutral system, not black and white. We can seriously use it for good or evil. I hope that technology takes humanity out of the shithole it is stuck in.

Robot daycare sounds fun. I can foresee a robot in the future that can detect a messy diaper and will have the ability to safely change diapers, will automatically cradle a baby to sleep, and detect when a baby is crying and needs to eat.

It'll be called Mombot 2.0!!!

I also foresee a future where most of us are dating and making love to robots in augmented reality. Awwwww yeahhhhhh :awesome:

Robots will soon replace real lovers and real sex partners, and in the future only a small percentage of people will actually be reproducing. Those who do reproduce will likely be "pre-selected" by either some sector of government or board of scientists, and their genetics will be artificially implanted with somebody else who has been "chosen."

cool.

PS: no more duds in bed! :yesnod:
