feeling lonely
    #20219444 -

Im 19 all my teenage year from about 15 to about 18 ive been a terrible wreck ive suffered from anxiety and terrible self esteem and very bad depression and not motivated to do shit. I never did none of that emo shit, but i just skipped school alot didnt feel like getting up, go out just overall depressed, no friends, used drugs weed everyday, which in itself didnt help as abusing weed causes ME anxiety and low confidence.

Anyways im 19 now and ive grown and become very optimistic with myself and more accepting of me being an introvert or quiet guy, im happy with myself. I took a gap year off college, as i couldnt cope, with people as a whole and i was depressed. In this gap year ive been working on my self a great deal, reading, meditating, weight lifting bulked up and gained alot of muscle mass, going out on my bike, walking down the forest just by my self, stuff like that.

This all started because of shrooms btw, because i read shrooms is an antidepressent and i wanted natural cures didnt go doctors or want any anti depressants, so i self medicated with shrooms, which helped and i havent taken any in over a year or so and dont feel like taken anymore, i respect them.
I still smoke weed but very controlled, couple times a week, or after a hard days work as i work in contruction.

Back to me feeling abit lonley, like i said im happy being an introvert and myself. But i want a few friends or whatever to hangout and relax or a girlfriend. Im going back to college on september, im putting all my hopes to meeting people then, is this right or could this end to more depression if it fails?... How can i fix this problem and neet people? Ive been a abit bad at talking and social skills.
Ive never had a gf or nothing, i know i shouldnt care about this stuff as i know im still young, and things will start falling to place as time goes, but still its abit downish for now.
Thanks

GF's will come in time. I was 18 in first year of uni before i had my first serious relationship. Most people lie about the age they lose their virginity.  18 isn't actually late, nor is 19.  When you meet a girl who likes YOU for who YOU are she will not give a shit that you've never had a gf.  Some prefer it because you've no dodgy past.

Uni is a good place to meet people, but don't place all your faith in it.  Join some social clubs and get to know different people and groups. It's the perfect time and excuse to walk up to anyone and introduce yourself.  Your at a new uni, in a new city so it's expected that you're looking to make friends and they're all in the same boat.  Remember that,  the quiet ones are just like yourself, nervous and alone in a new place.  Introduce yourself and you'll meet some fascinating people just like yourself.

Knock the weed on the head if it doesn't agree with you. I smoked from about 13 years old and packed it in at 26.  It does help a lot. It's not for everyone and will make you more inclined to stay indoors and skip the nights out in favour of getting high plus all your money is wasted on it rather than being out and about. Speaking from first hand experience and personal regrets there.

Also remember that some people just aren't that social and that some friends don't last forever but uni is a melting pot of all types of people so embrace it. You might make some lifelong friends, some solid freinds that you'll drift away from and have to tolerate being around some people you don't like but that's all part of it.

Don't waste the opportunity, seriously.  Having fun is important but you're there for an education too.  Drugs are good fun but it's all about moderation and control.  You've smoked weed and know the up's and down's of it so you're already a step ahead of most of the naĆve stoners who will pick it up for the first time and think its the best thing in the world.  Be smart about it all.

You will learn a lot both academically, socially and about yourself.  Expect highs and lows but persevere and you'll come out all the better. It isn't easy at times and the temptation to just lay about, smoke weed and burn  student loans can be tempting but be sensible.

Best of luck to you dude.

I'm much older than you but stuck in this terrible dry patch with no end in sight I found one woman I liked only to be rejected. It hurts going through everyday carrying this loneliness I'm hanging on by a thread.

I'm not going to read the entire OP because I'm tired as hell. Anyways, we all feel lonely at some point in time. I've felt extremely lonely the last few months. Have been with no women in about 4 years because of my choice. But it's beginning to show that I would like some attention. I'm just trying to take things so slow so as not to mess stuff up like before. Anyways if you feel lonely, go out with friends, make new friends, go socialize, go to the park... all sorts of things you can do. Dwelling on it won't help anything. Meds often don't need to be used either. I think Doctors jump the gun often on that one

I've been going through the same thing man. I'm 18, and the anxiety/depression started a few months before i turned sixteen. At first I told myself it was only a phase, and that depression is normal in teens, Which it is. It pretty much never went away, and I'm still sitting here with the same exact psychological battles I've had since then. I've always been a very social guy, and I have lots of really good friends that have always helped me feel better about myself. When it comes to girls, Iv'e had issues i guess. I've never had a real girlfriend throughout highschool and the relationships I've had with girls were always really short. One girl was super cool, but she started getting way too needy!!! She'd just show up at my house randomly, and it pissed me the fuck off!! We were dating, but i never actually asked her to be my girl. I've had my good days, and even weeks since it started, where I have felt normal again, but i always end up back in the same dark place

also, I think I found the cause. WEEEEEED!! Since the end of freshman year to about 2 months ago, I smoked at least once a day, usually three times a day, and sometimes four or five. I peddled a lot, so I had a endless supply. I've read that chronic marijuana use can trigger a wide range of psychological disorders. The depression came from the psychological problems that the chronic pot use triggered (I think.) It was mainly OCD, and social anxiety, but I still remain very social. It's weird... I force myself to be social thinking it will help, and the people that I am not comfortable around, probably think I'm weird, and I obsess over this all day.

Yeah, I hear you dude. I used to think having lots of friends or a girlfriend would make my life better. Careful with that wish though, some people have more depression and problems than you have currently. Just pay attention to finishing your studies and focusing on yourself. Stick to what interests you more. Believe me, man. I dated somebody for a year and a half and I was way better off not dating her and being single. As for friends, I've had so many leech off of me that it quickly began to get really annoying. From years of learning, I only trust a handful of people now and have a lot to be thankful for than previously known. Since you're young just don't let the negatives and peer pressure get to you. Don't be ashamed to be yourself, and if anyone judges you harshly that means they are too insecure themselves to be just as positive as you.
