Travel in May - Where should I go?
    #2071789 - 11/04/03 11:40 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hey everyone,
I'm 21 (will be 22 at time of travel) currently,

In May, I plan on taking a two week trip somewhere in the US. I'm starting to plan now, so I have an idea of what to do. I really don't want to spend a lot of money - so I'm investigating people online perhaps to ask if I can stay with them for a short while depending on where I go (I'm a very cautious person, so I definitely don't plan on staying with anyone unless I can converse with them first via IM, e-mail, friendster, the like.. I'm not asking for any help in this department though, so no worries!).

I was also trying to think of a cheap way to travel - I'd love to take a bus, or a train, because you know - no driving necessary (and I really don't want to drive. I plan on reading and writing a lot on this trip).

Now, does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? I'm looking for somewhere that's not going to be cold, so I don't have to worry about being warm. (I can't remember if May is warm or not).

Anyway, any help or suggestions on where I could go would be great. I love nature and everything, but some civilization would be great too - because you know, I'd like to check out some libraries.. maybe have access to the internet if I wanted it.. be able to check out local places and manage the confidence to talk to some new people. Stuff like that. So if any area incorporates a great deal of nature with a well-to-do enough amount of civilization, that would be wonderful.

I'm open to suggestions though - anyone? and if there are any threads like this, if someone could point me in that directions (or websites), that would be great as well.

Thanks for your time everyone, I've been checking this site randomly for a good 3 years or so now.. Everyone keep up this community, it's a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Fare well, everyone! I look forward to help! :] Thanks in advance.

I've always wanted to check out the ancient redwood forests of Northern California... (whats left of them anyway) maybe that's something you could check out. Humboldt County is supposed to have some beautiful areas.

As a side note, this is sort of off topic. It's not really about either spirituality or philosophy.

I thought this would be the best place for it . . . this trip I'm taking is very "spiritual", very "philosophical". I have a lot of thinking to do. I'm currently a Philosophy major and considering a PhD. My parents are moving to Pennsylvania. My band is keeping me where I am in NY, and I have a difficult time deciding to go away to school - I'm a very lonely person. I miss an ex-girlfriend that I haven't been with in about two years, but our relationship was two and a half years long. All I do is think anymore. All I have are my thoughts. This trip is important, I think.

This may be a little too nature like but there are two amazing national parks in Utah. Bryce Canyon and Zion. Absolutely breath-taking!! If you want some beach action there's Santa Cruz, California. I've been there once and i'm going back in a few weeks. Really chill kick back place, there's civilization but also some good places to get away... and San Francisco is only an hour away.

Come hang with me. I have plenty of dried shrooms we could eat. Plenty of land we could roam as well!

I think all the time. You would fit right in! No problems.

PM me.

.  if you want something cheap. the train is the way to go.  go as far as you want to.  what do you plan on doing?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I'm not sure what I'm doing. A lot of thinking I guess, a little exploration. Writing. It's just that the opportunity is presenting itself so wonderfully, it's necessary I take advantage. Getting away is something I just need to do. I'm a little tipsy right now so I may not be making sense, I will have to post tomorrow. Which I'll do. goodnight. :]

Yeah, Amtrack will be sure to give you a lot to think about as the train is derailing.
Peace.

And, if I were to take it, can I get off and get back on whenever I please, or only for when my ticket is scheduled?

I am completely terrified to get on a plane. Never been on one. I have this hugely overwhelming feeling that once I get on a plane, the big guy upstairs has it in for me. The feeling seems like more than paranoia, so I'm not sure I want to fuck around with it..
