Sheepish already mentioned them but I have to put my vote in for Shalabi Effect...they are my shrooming necessity (my sober necessity as well.) They're middle eastern influenced psychedelia/art rock. They can be found at www.shalabieffect.com and www.alien8recordings.com
Mogwai, hangedup, mum, godspeed you black emperor, and a silver mt zion are some bands I'm rather fond of sober or tripping as well.
Last trip I had I was at my boy's house and they were having a concert downstairs, we went in to check out a metal band and were half overwhelmed half totally annoyed. It was violence. Anger just freaks me out when I'm on mush.

This is an amazing album. It's like a modern day Piper At The Gates of Dawn...
See my post a little above yours.
Yes The Ishness is a classic.
The only other modern music I listen to trip to are:
The KLF: The Chill Out Just cant be beaten
Funki Porchini: Hed Phone Sex. Excellent
James: Wah Wah
I like The Coral but its all been done before and better.
Most Modern Bands seem to lack the atmosphere that I like.
I have over 150 pysche Cd's and those mentioned are my best.
I would love to know of a good Dead Cd. The ones Ive heard are quite country sounding. I believe their live ones are good though.

Indeed my friend! I also like to listen to MMW, any live show. They blew me away at Bonnaroo, as they do at any live performance. I'm glad i found their bonnaroo set, it's everything i remember and more.

Well yes of course, but you gotta' admit that it is a fcukin' fantastic album. Skeleton Key?!? What a tune. In My Lonely Room?!? Fcukin' brilliant tune that an'all!
The Coral= The Prisoners, circa, 1984/85.

Tabla beat science.
You will ascend to a new plane listening to these groups.
Traditional Indian instruments (tabla, sitar, erue) mixed with atmospheric trance and techno.
The best trip i ever had on shrooms was while listening to this music. I actually was in extacy. It felt great.

>> what are some good ambient, spacy-type sounding songs? mmm, most all of these reccomendations are over-hyped, especially shpongle. you want to go with the most elusive and suave pieces of dark ice. concept albums. by a guy named wolfgang voigt, GAS. zauberberg, pop, oktember, and konigsforst...these are the german recordings of the Rhine forest on acid. GAS . btw you want to get the LP so you can slow it down to 33 rpm -8%.

starlight mints rule, godspeed you black emperor rules, alot of the bands you guys have listed are good, but i wouldnt want to trip to them. I recomend the following...with headphones on of course (the only way to listen to music). -Explosions in the sky, album: "those who tell the truth....." -The Orb , album: "live '94" -aphex twin, album: "selected ambient works 2" -aphex twin, album: "druqks" -modest mouse, album: "the moon and antartica"
the modest mouse is fucking insanity so be ready. i have yet to have a bad trip to live '94 by the orb, go all the way through disk A and b, i garuntee you will have a good time (given you have headphones on). I have tripped to live '94 roughly 30 or 40 times, and each time it was me lying in bed in the dark with headphones on...i highly reccomend this. ive hit level 4 about 50% of the time when listening to live '94, it seems to boost me up alot. aphex twin is good, but can also be too intense. explosions in the sky is good for the afterglow. Makes you feel good to be alive, real real real good.
~J-Slice~
ps.....seriously, listen to both disks....live '94, i cant say it enough, the orb is amazing.

I saw Modest Mouse last year...they played "I Came As A Rat" for 18 minutes and Isaac Brock cut his arm with a broken beer bottle and had to stop the show early because he was bleeding everywhere, like on the crowd and everything.

I know many of these have already been listed, but here is my personal repertoire of CDs.
Aphex Twin - Drukqs Orb - UFOrb Orb - Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld Orbital - Orbital 2 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd - The Wall Pink Floyd - Meddle Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible
In my playlist:
some Astral Projection some Infected Mushroom some Hallucinogen some more Shpongle some more Pink Floyd
And I'm weird but I like a lot of classic rock when I'm tripping (Beatles, Dylan, Dead, Hendrix, Lou Reed, Keller, Led Zeppelin, Phish, Rush, the Who, etc.).

I wanted to say, that if anyone likes Shpongle they should definitely check out Entheogenic. ALOT like Shpongle, but more spiritual sounding....
