Tortoise - one of my favorite bands, tripping or not. It's not very "trippy" but the styles are so amazing it can't be beat. All instrumental.

Easy one.....Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland .
If you haven't tried this one, you NEED to. I had a trip in '94 that I still remember as being wonderful. I listened for this album about 7 times that night, and it never got old, just "Ooooooh, this song again".
Electric Ladyland is an album that makes you feel as if you are tripping even if you are not. A masterpiece, as is DSOTM by Pink Floyd.
The Dead or Phish is always a good bet as well. I love The String Cheese Incident while tripping as well.

any drum and bass is sure to trip you out eg DJ Hype, DJ Zinc, Dom and Roland, Bad Company, Universal Project etc
or maybe some jungle or reggae or ragga, which is pretty cool
i think drumming is the best thing to trip to.

Instrumental is nice, but I like guitar solo's and stuff, especially if I see the person playing it. It's very enjoyable, maybe because I love playing guitar =)

Yeah man I like "foreign" lyrics.. of course, the singers should be decent..

FunkyBudah: "Easy one.....Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland . "
I agree. That's actually what I listened to on my first trip. 1983... is an AMAZING song, as is Voodoo Chile (not slight return, but rather the extended blues song-track 4). The first two tracks (And the gods made love and Have you ever been (to Electric Ladyland)) are also very trippy. Actually, the whole album is great.
I'll throw in recommendations for Ravi Shankar, Ustad All Rakha (tabla master), Terry Riley (classical), and of course Sgt. Pepper. Also, Dark Star by the Dead has been called the trippiest song in history.

I find that music that is full of bass is the best. Pink Floyd, all the classics are fun and all, but they are classicds. Lets look at some Modern Music. The Linkin Park Jay-Z mash up album, that one blew my brain in the last month is was some amazing while tripping. I also find Kings of Leon to be amazing for some strange reason. Its the flow of their music i think.

i find i like songs that seems to last forever when i trip. some of the ones i like best are
Bjork - unison The field- leave it royksopp- electric counterpart iii. fast (RYXPs milde salve) pink floyd-echoes
as for SOUNDS i like to hear, i like nature sounds, i like hearing about our connectedness to the universe i like friendly sounding chants, or meditations i enjoy long sounding notes-- i think because one experiences time differently when on psychadelics, the long notes seem shorter whereas normal music can seem too short to really get into it fully

Do you watch the Office? One of the characters makes scenes sounds for a hobby. He talks about them and says " I do this because its taking the best scene from a movie and making that moment last for ever" When i saw that i was thinking, i need this for tripping. haha.
I do find that albums that flow well together work nice, Sgt Pepper, Linkin Parks Thousands Suns, Massive Attack - just cause they have 20 minute songs. lol.

Hey man, not to be a dick but your reviving a 8 year old dead thread.
Thats really harshly frowned upon in our community.
read the rules in each forum before posting guys.
It's cool though everyone does it
just try to read before posting some people on here will flame you really hard for this kinda stuff.
stay up playa playas!

yeah I hear ya man,
This is an important thread but I think more would come out of it making new thread.
as you can see I'm new to this place also, but I think reeving a music thread that is 8 years old isnt gonna do much good. Also I dont think people are gonna hate on you for making another open discussion type thread that may at some point have been made. People useally get more up in arms when its a question that could have easily been answered.
Sure the musics effectiveness will be the same as it were then but I think it would benifit to get some fresh ideas or maybe those who posted on this thread may have new out looks.
You will for sure have more responses from people when they open a new thread with fresh disccusion brewing rather then half way through reading saying "wait why am I reading a thread from 8years ago?". And hey who doesn't want thier own budding thread right? It's just a better jumping off point IMO
And I will TOTALLY SUPPORT the thread you end up making...
(make sure you find the right forum for it though if you do)

ENTHEOGENIC SOUND EXPLORERS ARE PERFECT FOR TRIPPING
THEY MADE 4 GREAT PSYCHEDELIC ALBUMS for DATABLOEM rec (and on iTunes)
THE CD IN WAVE FORMAT ARE BETTER FOR A SERIOUS TRIP
CHECK THEM OUT:
http://soundcloud.com/esesound
http://www.youtube.com/user/entheogenicexplorers/videos
http://www.databloem.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&manufacturer_id=274&Itemid=2
THE NEW ALBUM IS GREAT (here is the review):
Entheogenic Sound Explorers fourth and most consistent album so far, offering an hours worth of adventurous dubby, hypnotic ambient. With "Quarto" Stefano Contini & Piero Marchesi have made another step in pushing their composing and production skills to a higher level. The albums seems to tell a story, travelling through psychedelic landscapes with a sense of hope and being. Put on repeat and you will discover new paths with each listen.
PEACE & LIGHT
