Does anyone have experience with getting published?

I've recently completed a book I wrote and I'm now looking at publishing options.

Self publishing is obviously going to be a lot faster but of course will require a bit of money (which I don't  have) to get it going and then there's also the possibility that it won't make any money, which leads me to believe it would be difficult to get a loan for this process.

Traditional publishing would be a whole lot slower and there's a good chance it will take a bit of time to find a publisher who wants to publish it, but as I understand the company buys the rights, meaning they cover all the costs of publishing & promoting... but as they have the rights I assume they can then make any changes they want without my approval.

Basically I just want to get it published quickly without spending a whole lot of money, but at the same time I don't want to give away the rights to the book as I'd like to have quite a bit of control over the finished product.


Does anyone here have experience with this or any advice at all? I'm feeling a little lost.

I would try to get it printed and distributed by amazon.

Isn't Amazon publishing only for kindles? That kind of limits the exposure, but it could be a good place to start at... I'm just looking into it now. Thanks!

My mother-in-law has written a few books. But I really havent a clue what that took or how much was invested into it.

I'll look into it for you.
