Would left over WBS after washing / rinsing be fine to use at a later date?

Yep, just let it dry and then soak it again when it's needed

I followed this guide exactly but once my jars had cooled some grains were sticking to the jar walls. They also look a lot more moist than before PC'ing.

Dry them out more or what? Does the RR field capacity test (squeezing grains to get dripping water) work with WBS? I could never get more than a drop or two...

just give it a day or so before freaking out bro:thumbup: probably just condesation moisture from your jars cooling down and it should be reabsorbed pretty quick, give it a shake every now and then

Field capacity is for substrates and casing like coir or peat moss. You want your grains to be fully hydrated but dry to the touch. Put some grains on a paper towel for 15 seconds. If the paper is dry when you remove the grains its good to go. A lot of the time grains will seem a bit wet after PCing. give them a shake and let them sit for a bit they should look better after a while.

I already inoculated them, they had cooled for about 18 hours, I shook the jars A TON, then inoculated.

The grains are sticking to the jar near the lid. None are stuck to polyfill, I made sure of that and it was easy to avoid. How's it look? This is the worst jar of the bunch.

It definitely looks a bit wet. Just try to let your next batch of WBS dry a bit more before you PC.

I did, I shook a ton, like a shook baby amount, before I inoculated.

Yah I will. I was just waiting until the paper towel 15 sec test and the "do they fall off your hand" test succeed. Plus, I've got 12 quarts of rye berries that were on the dry side so I let these be a bit less dry before I PCed.

How much evaporation will happen with polyfill as a filter? This grow is an amalgamation of Frank's WBS TEK and his 12 steps to shrooms guides.

hey man,

sorry to bump this thread but I wanted to get things strait.
So you soak the grains 12-24 hours, then you put it on the stove and heat it until it simmers. do you take it off the stove as soon as simmers or do you let it simmer for a certain amount of time?

Thanks!

No, I dump it as soon as it starts to simmer.
My WBS comes out very sticky when I simmer it like rye, making the batch unusable.

About 9-10 cups of dry WBS equals 7-10 hydrated WBS quart jars (varies by brand)

Does that mean 9-10 dry cups is 7-10 full quarts or 7-10 2/3 full quarts or what? I'm only doing 1 monotub (for my first time) and I dont really want to make more than I need.  Any help would be much appreciated, and thank you for writing up all your methods they have been very informative.

doe the WBS need to look dry on the outside? meaning non shinny at all? i've tried WBS twice with two very slimmy and awful failures

It needs to feel dry on the outside. Do you boil the WBS after soaking? It could be you are boiling for too long and releasing all the starches, creating a sticky mess...but if you dump the grains into the strainer while they are hot, they should steam dry fine on their own, even if you forget to toss them around a few times.

Or are they slimy after inoculation? That would indicate bacteria.
