Actually, I think you are...

Moderators aren't able to delete or edit ratings -- unless there is a glitch in the system. Only Admins can delete or edit ratings, and if we edit them it says, "Rating Edited by so-and-so." If we delete them, then they just disappear altogether. However, I don't think Admins go around deleting ratings unless they are a bogus trade rating or a rating by a puppet...

Your rating should have been of the person and not as any response to another rating for the person.

Your rating of a user should stand alone, as a rating...not a ranting.

We should all have, and do have, the right to change our opinion or rating of another user at any time.

Any user can edit/delete their own ratings of anyother user.

This was definately not a trade rating or puppet rating. This was a moderator deleting their own rating to make another user's rating look bogus. I just think it's childish and unneccesary to use tricks like that.

I definately don't want to blow this out of proportion, just wanted to point out what I see as a bit of a problem.

Yes, of course.

But I feel that the altered rating should be reflected by the "edited by such-and-such on such-and such date" rather than by erasing it and giving the false impression that the rating was newly entered and never edited and moving it up in line ahead of other posters. Why should moderators have this power?

They have the same rating abilities you do as far as I know.

For a user to edit a rating w/o showing the entry as edited...

Create rating
Delete rating
re-create rating.

This will make an edited rating appear as new w/o showing an edit stamp.

Knowledge is power....

increase your power.

Ask the person who rated you.

Oh, well anyone can delete their own rating of someone else. Why doesn't the other user delete their own rating then? Then the problem would be solved...

It should also be noted that the ratings system is quite buggilicious.  I've seen it where the text in old ratings is replaced by a newer rating by and for completely different users.  So you end up with a rating that makes absolute no sense (and is kind of funny when the person is going off about something completely unrelated to either party involved  ).  But in your case, it was probably that the user deleted their rating and re-rated.  Mods cannot delete or edit ratings other than the ones they gave.

Those aren't bugs. They are undocumented features...

any user can delete\edit\recreate their rating of another user. you don't have to be a mod to do this.

no ONE member's opinion (no matter how high up he may be) of another rule-abiding member should have more say than the lowliest member of the Shroomery.

nah. ratings by racist pricks and ignorant assholes deserve less weight.
