The Sharpen Tool

I was messing around with the art program I have on my computer(it?s called GIMP--similar to Photoshop, but not quite as advanced), and I discovered that the sharpen tool does something wierd.

Here?s the image I started out with:


And here it is after a liberal use of the sharpen tool:

Where did you get the starting image from? That is a neat effect. A friend of mind is working on a series of digital art right now where he breaks down the images into this wierd underlying code...it sort of reminds me of that.

I made the starting image in MS Paint, and then made it bigger, which is how it got blurry. When I attempted to sharpen it, the second image is what resulted.

it tries to sharpen the grey dots around, and either you or the program overdid it. what's weird is how you got those grey dots if using ms paint, they look like its from a dirty paper or something. unless you made them on purpose, of course.

It was all-black when I did it with MS Paint. The greyness came about when I resized it with GIMP.

thats pretty cool
it reminds me of how some electronic music producers over-use distortion to "enhance" their beats and noises. an effect that some would would deem detrimental can also lead the piece in new and often exciting directions.
