disappointed with pro tools le, what should i get next?
    #2457901 - 03/21/04 06:46 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

i recently bought the mbox system w/ pro tools le 6.1.1. however, im really disappointed that it limits you on how many tracks you can have in a session (16 stereo tracks or 32 mono tracks).

so now im going to move onto some other digital audio editing program...but which one? i heard logic is amazing, ive heard good things about nuendo and cubase...any info would be appreciated.

btw, i have a pc.

It was my understanding that ProTools was generally accepted as the top of the line. Perhaps there are different versions and you have one of the more limited ones??? I myself use Cakewalk and Soundforge and they do me ok.

yeah pro tools is top of the line, when you spend the $10,000+ for ProTools|HD. i got the cheaper version, though (ProTools LE)

Depends on what you want to do really. Nuendo is great for live recording if you want to record a whole band. If you do a bunch of VST work with a MIDI controller, cubase sx or any other multitrack will work fine. Its all a matter of what you prefer. Logic rocks, but the last version for PC is 5.1 or something(no updates). I myself use a tracker(Renoise) as my main sequencer.

the second best thing to ProTools|HD,
is Digital Performer 4 running on a Powermac.
DP4 has unlimited tracks and is a cinch to use.

the third best would be Logic Platinum,
which has a few more options than DP4 or Cubase,
but has an extremely counter-intuitive interface.

Cubase Nuendo is geared towards sound+video production.
Cubase SX would prolly be your best bet if you are using a PC.

btw, your hardware audio interface is more important than software.
make sure your recording 24bits @ 48-96KHz and get a good pre.

Logic is Stacked w/ features,
which makes it the toughest to learn.

most Studios here don't use Logic,
because it's slow and click-intensive.

when you have a producer breathing down your neck,
an engineer has to be able to navigate quickly,
that's why i use Digital Performer 4.

i use Logic 6 @ night in my bedroom...  :spliff:

there are copies of Logic Platinum 5.3 for PC out there,
@ least you could work on learning it until you get a PowerMac G5.
