I like to think it's just a byproduct of the "great generations" conditioning they provided to my babyboomer parents.  i was always told if i ever got arrested, don't call home - i'm not getting bailed out.

turns out, pretty good deterrent of bad behavior - hahahahaha

I hear what you're saying and there's nothing wrong with your parents approach.  I wouldn't expect my parents to bail me out.  But my dad is advocating locking me up for the rest of my life on this earth if I'm caught with one ounce of heroin.  That thought wouldn't even cross my mother's mind.

That's like a lot, only semi-big dealers and up have an ounce or more of heroin on them regularly.

That's not something a regular user of heroin would have, that's like 280+ good doses...

We got on the subject of making meth because there's ephedrine in NyQuil D.  That led to the subject of drugs and dealing drugs, which is something we never talk about.  Now I know why.  His solution to the drug problem is to lock everyone caught with an ounce of heroin or more up for life.  No chance of parole.  I told him "Well, if you're going to take that stance, you're going to have to be prepared to be okay with me, [my sister] and [my niece] to be locked up for life if we were caught with it".  Fucking guy flat out said he'd be okay with that and that and that we'd basically be dead to him if that happened.  I'm finding myself now seriously questioning how much he loves us.  WTF. 

Now he might just be talking big and then if it really happened then he'd change his stance quick.  But I can't believe even in theory that he'd be willing to take that position.  Jesus Christ dude.

There's that rare junkie who uses responsibly, and there's that rare dealer who only deals to people who aren't on a bad course, buuuut...

an ounce of heroin, dude. I'm not really familiar with heroin dosage, but that sounds like a fucking lot of heroin.

Not really. "Especially heroin?"

Heroin is like, one of the worst drugs.

He didn't mean "It's especially insane to stigmatize heroin, because it's not dangerous at all."  He meant heroin is especially stigmatized, more than almost any other drug.  Like, if you're an average 20-something and you admit to your friends casually that you use heroin from time to time, many of your friends will almost surely automatically think much less of you and stop hanging out with you, because of the heavy stigma that's been attached to it.

I remember a time when my dad said that heroin should be laced so it gets rid of them, also at the same time that we should legalize it because if it were legal people would od. He didn't mean people trying it for their first time would od he thinks that all of a sudden if its legal people are just going to take insane amounts.. because its legal.

Yep, pretty much.  I wouldn't necessarily say more stigmatized than any other drug though.... meth seems to be almost equivalently (perhaps even more so) up there.  But at least heroin in comparison with meth, if taken in pharmaceutical grade purity, is far less toxic... and compared to alcohol over long-term use much, MUCH less toxic.

Anyways, :lol: at Sheekle still being butthurt and stalking my posts after I ignored him.  :smilingpuppy:

People don't see the human side of drug abuse when its just a bunch of statistics about how dangerous high people are or the people the dealers have killed

OP, ask your father how he would feel if someone (one of his friends or family) left a ounce of heroin in his car, and then he got pulled over by a cop the next day and they find the drugs on him.

Should he go to prison for the rest of his life?  He will be charged for the crime, it doesn't matter if it wasn't his heroin, he has to do the time.

If we follow his line of reasoning, there are NO excuses for possession of drugs, he must go to prison for the rest of his life.

You know they say fast food, corn syrup, cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and watching too much TV is bad for you. Does that mean we have the right to force ourselves into other peoples lives and make decisions for them by banning or threatening criminal charges for not abiding by what we think is best for someone? Is someone who rapes or shoots people the same level of threat to society as someone who consumes drugs? One person violates other people. One person only affects himself.

Call me crazy but I think everyone should have complete sovereignty over their own body up until the point that their choices affect other people. The idea of throwing someone into a cage for decades because of a choice they made that affected nobody but themselves is infinitely more criminal.

My mother said a similar thing about Pedophilia once (yes I know this is a bit different than dealing heroin). She made the claim that anyone who is a pedophile should be violently put to death (rather amusing coming from a peace/love hippie like her)

I explained to her that a pedophile is merely a person who experiences sexual attraction to children and that the child needs to be prepubescent (i.e a 40 year old man having sex with a 14 year old is not a pedophile). I also explained to her that just because pedophiles are sexually attracted to children doesn't mean to rape or abuse them - in a similar way to how a heterosexual male can be attracted to, but not rape and abuse grown women.

Despite this my mother continued to hold that stance the pedophiles are innately evil and that all pedophiles must be rapists who deserve death. I asked her something like "and how you do you think the families of those people would feel about their loved ones being put to death for nothing more than a desire they were born with" to which she said "if you were a pedophile you'd deserve to die, pedophiles are scum."

The whole concept struck me as very odd. That a person would rather protect some strangers children more-so than their own. It makes me wonder how easily people can be turned against their own family by nothing more than a craftily worded television report.

To be honest, I think all hard drug addicts should be shipped off to an island of their own where they can do however much drugs they want.

Heroin addicts don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. They don't give a shit about anything except getting their next gram. They hurt people and they lie and they're cunning and manipulative.

Hell, fucking kill them all, heroin addicts are not good for anything but doing heroin. They will use the fuck out of you and make you feel sorry for them "Oh I just have a drug problem, it's not a big deal, I need help, but I don't know how to stop...please feel bad for me." FUCK YOU!!! DIE!!

I'm glad you shared that.  I'm sick of people advocating or even taking lightly, opiate use on The Shroomery.  It's a disgusting drug that will rip through your life and the lives of everyone you know. 

Having said that, it's a product that people want/need, so I'm completely fine with people selling it.
