Hitchhiking
    #19562974 -

Hitchhiking used to be a really common and popular thing back in the day, namely around the 1970's. Now it's rather uncommon.

Have you ever hitchhiked/picked up hitchhikers?

Any interesting stories come of it?

Hitchhiking was more popular before the 50s (huge during the depression), it was pretty much dead by the 70s and is ridiculously rare now. Statistically speaking your odds being hurt while hitchhiking or picking up a hitchhiker are 1/1000 but everyone's really xenophobic and fearful these days :nonono:

I've gone hitchhiking, its great. Longest ride I got was from a cop, he helped me out when my foot got messed up. 15 miles back into town

One time I picked up a teenage girl near the beach. Her car was broken down and I only actually stopped because she ran out in front of me to stop me. She had only been passed by 3 cars all morning, so was desperate. Very desperate, because she offered road head for a ride to her parents.

The last few years the only hitchers I've seen looked like they were more likely to kill someone than blow them. No go.

I've only ever hitchhiked in Costa Rica. I was warned that its dangerous but out of the 5 times I got picked up, 3 times I was picked up by gringos living down there and twice by locals, everyone was always cool and usually had a cold beer for me for the ride. I definitely got the feeling this must be how the states used to be. It was a lot of fun.

I stopped doing it alone after some locals pulled over and told me to take the bus, because i'll most likely get taken out to the middle of nowhere and robbed.

I picked up some hitchhikers once. I saw them and actually circled around deciding fuck it. I took them about half there distance for where I was going. One was from germany the other from belgium. Smoked me a fat bleezy. Plus gave me there card they owned a touring industry in germany.

Told me if your ever in germany give us a call we got your back. Was a cool experience. Still got there card.

my brother is one of those fake homeless kids who hitchhikes around. he leaves for a few months and then comes back and stays with our parents for a week or two, and he always has some crazy story. this one dude pulled a gun on him and tried to get him to suck his dick, my brother just hopped out and got another ride. another time he was going down to guatamala from baja ca and this dude took him all the way, taught him some spanish, and gave him an eighth of shrooms. two sides of the coin haha, not my stories but i thought they were interesting

I plan on hitchhiking somewhere after I graduate. I don't know where, but somewhere.

Maybe Nashville, maybe further.

Being picking more and more up lately! Its always nice. :peace: And if you don't enjoy the conversation you can always just drop them off down the road lol:tongue2: I recently picked a fella up on a road trip of mine and his dog Gandolf. His dog really enjoyed my blankets and pillows in the back of the car haha, anyway they were nice. Makes me want to hitchhike myself..

I picked up an old man hitchhiking to a CVS. He had a limp and didn't talk much. I left him alone in the car while i did something. I trusted him, it was like I already knew him

I've never been hitchhiking but a friend of mine recently told me about a time in the early 80's where he nearly got abducted. Thought he was getting free good drugs, ended up getting the bad kind. Him and his buddy woke up on the side of road, clothes on, nothing hurt, with all of their belongings. Quite strange.

I think it's dangerous nowadays. Lots of weirdos out there. But as long as your careful, prepared for the worst and can defend yourself, you should be good.

I picked up a hitchhiker at around exit 59 on the merritt (ya probably know where that is Sheekle)once last year. I pulled over...asked "You're not going to murder me right?" ...he seemed nice, but I suspect most hitchhiking murderers would seem nice at first.

But I figured he was kinda old and I could take him unless he had a knife or something. Anyway, he was a pretty chill guy. He asked if I was I religious...I told him not really. He himself was a christian.  I asked him if he had any age-old wisdom that he picked up from his many years in life. I was disappointed that he didn't. Wasn't really that interesting of a ride, but it felt good helping the guy out. He was hitchhiking for a few states I think he said.
