Hell yeah man! I'm glad everything is going as planned for you. It was a smart decision to get rid of the weed in my opinion. Those k9's on the bus must have been fucking scary! Keep on keeping on brotha. Don't feel that you're obligated to do so of course but when you get some free time or just whenever you feel like it give us some updates on how you're doing/where you are/etc. I'd like to hear more about your adventure, I'm sure others would too. Stay safe out there man. You are mighty courageous to do what you're doing. Peace out man.

We do work hard but holy shit this place is awesome! 600 acres of organic produce and the kitchen is just up for grabs. I've already baked bread and a chocolate cake today for shits and giggles and there's a couple hippies here too. Everyone is 420 friendly and I've got an LSA extraction going just because someone else was down to do it with me and now that I have organic garlic cloves I can make the no-nausea extraction Me and this one chick are sneaking to a cow field tonight to flip over some turds and see if we can find some shrooms (they are under the poop right?) Weekends we can do whatever the hell we want, like there's pretty much no rules here at all. Nights get cold (for a Texan) but nothing I can't handle (we'll see if I'm still saying this during the winter). So glad I came here. I love to cook so it's almost lame how excited I am to have so many REAL ingredients to work with.
So many good vibes here.
And so many good vibes from you guys as well, thank you so much for the uplifting words. You guys have no idea how much they helped me on my journey. I'll definitely keep you guys updated when I get the chance.
Good vibes

Oh I forgot to mention that we're on a mountain so the view is fucking gorgeous EVERYWHERE. As soon as I step out my door it's just an incredible sight. Coming from Texas where everything is brown and dead to here where there's so much greenery is mind blowing. I'm going to go hike some mountains tomorrow for the hell of it.

It sounds great so far, stay cool. But no, the shrooms are not found under cow poop. Look for them growing in or next to it. Be really careful, check for blue staining.

As a farmer my advice to you is to be the hardest worker there. Sounds like you've got it pretty fucking sweet and you're gonna want to stay there through the whole winter where you are. So just work hard. Farming's just a lot of dirt and shit and sweat. And try to get up with the sun. It will make a really good impression.

Oh trust me man, working hard is NO issue with me. I guarantee these places can't work me harder than this Christian boys home/boarding school/boot camp I went to. This is cake compared to that. I got motivation coming out of my ears and ass right now and I'm not going to give anyone reason to doubt my abilities. I've already given a damn good impression. I don't mean this in a conceited way but I'm busting ass and these guys love me so far. I do appreciate the advice though man, thank you.

Spose this advice is probably too late, but as you've likely already found out, mushrooms do not tend to grow from the bottom of cow/horse turds. Often you will find mycelium on the bottom, and that is part of the same fungus, but the fruiting bodies tend to be pointed up.
The main psychedelic mushrooms that would grow in New York I think are http://www.shroomery.org/9473/Panaeolus-cinctulus and http://www.shroomery.org/9571/Psilocybe-semilanceata, and this is probably going into the best time of year right now if you end up getting good rains, but my advice would be don't get your hopes up.
You're going to want to keep your eye on horse patties (the topside) and more importantly manure piles and any damp hay bales that might be laying around for the Panaeolus. You're unlikely to find a lot I think. I do remember years ago one guy here from VT posted a bale of hay that had a nice amount of them.
The Psilocybe is known as a Liberty Cap which I have heard grows in manured pastureland in the Northeast US, but the mushroom subsists off like little clusters of grass down near the roots, not found on fresh poop. Like a little bunch of grass that is big enough to give the mushrooms some shelter, you have to go poking around in there after a rain to find them usually.

It's raining right now actually and has been the past week from what I've been hearing. My friend got really bad allergies today and had to lay down so we didn't go hunting for shrooms so this advice is really helpful right now, thank you for posting. Is it just horse shit (heh....horse shit...) or is there a possibility of cows having it too? I know cow shit can have them too but I'm mostly talking about this area specifically. Also, is there a possibility I would find them out in the woods away from the cows and horses in this area?

Probably possible. Depends on what the cows diet is, but if it eats hay then it is probably pretty likelyin the right conditions. Mainly cow patties are known for psilocybe cubensis, which are what most people think of I think when they think of "shrooms" which does not grow in NY. You'd have to go to the Gulf Coast for that I think. Also the Pacific NW is another mushroom hotspot, but the Northeast US is pretty hit or miss if you ask me. Good luck tho, good to hear you like it!
In the woods I think would be less likely in terms of actives. You may find some nice chicken of the woods or morels or something of that nature tho Just be careful of course, the ID forum here is usually helpful so long as you do your own research first.

If you're interested in hunting magic mushrooms, make sure you hit up the mushroom identification forum to get your mushrooms identified. From the Shroomerys own list:
New York Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus luteus Gymnopilus validipes Inocybe corydalina Panaeolus cinctulus Panaeolus olivaceus Pluteus americanus Pluteus brunneidiscus Psilocybe caerulipes Panaeolus fimicola Pholiotina cyanopus Pholiotina smithii Psilocybe liniformans var. americana Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata Psilocybe semilanceata (rare) Psilocybe silvatica
Alot of the above are relatively harder to ID then say Psilocybe semilanceata or Panaeolus cinctulus (the same ones someone has already told you to look for)
Good luck OP! You're an inspiration for alot of us, I would love to do what you are doing

So no magic mushies so far BUT I did do an LSA trip and run off bare footed in the woods and found a bunch of cool mushrooms that I doubt are edible (except one that I think I was able to identify but it's just really healthy for you, no psychoactive properties. I'll post pics later) A few people have smoked me out with some bud since I got here and there's been a lot of beer lol...I'm not much of a drinker though. The work we do around here is hard and long (no that's what she said jokes pls) but luckily I think within the next week I'll be an employee rather than a WWOOFer and I should be getting a stipend of about $150 a week + my housing + my food + beer. So that should get me my next bus ticket to the next farm and I might be able to actually make it out to the West Coast next. I definitely needed this break from society though. Being around nature all the time is giving me a nice high itself and the physical activity is good for me...not so sure if it's hurting my back or making it stronger though...or both lol. I know for sure that next time I'd like to do smaller scale organic farming rather than 60 acres. But I think starting out so big is going to help me when I go to work on the smaller organic farms. It's not so much the work that gets to me as seeing the animals treated as products rather than living beings (I'm vegetarian) and seeing SO MUCH food go to waste. It's so sad to think about how many hungry people we could feed but instead we just throw it out because it has a slightly discolored spot or something silly like that. Plus the farm I'm working at now works us 8 - 10 hours a day for 5 days a week and most other farms only work WWOOFers 5 hours a day. But at least I should be making a little cash from this. It's not like I'm getting screwed over or anything though, they told me that it would be hard work and how many hours we'd be working and all of that. But I definitely can't wait to get to my next farm haha. Many mixed emotions about this obviously but all-in-all I'm happy about the situation. I definitely wouldn't be doing anything more productive if I was back at home though. I'm really glad to have this experience

Hey man. Thanks for the update. I'm glad to see that you're still posting. How was the LSA trip? Did you do it with anyone else? How's the New York weather treating you so far? Around this time of the year it shouldn't be too too cold but for a Texan like yourself I'm sure it's vastly different from what you're used to. I know in Texas it snows sometimes but hardly. If you don't mind me asking, are you in upstate or downstate NY? You don't have to answer that if you don't want to. Have you met anyone that you think you will keep in contact with or is it not like that? Are the people you work with about your age or are you the youngest one there? I'm glad to hear that you're doing well & not wanting to come back home man. Keep your spirits up & don't lose that P.M.A. brother. Peace out man. Keep on truckin'!
