Matter and AntiMatter

I've been reading a little on the subject, my knowledge is limited, but I find it quite fascinating. It seems at that for every billion of so antimatter there is 1 more "piece" of matter. Without this there would be no universe.

The website I've been reading says science is unsure as to why this occurred.

If there was an equal amount of matter and antimatter all that would exist would be light and empty space. Is this God? has science explained God?

Of course science can comprehend this concept but it does not speak the language of it. It's like trying to explain music using pictures. Science says it is only light and space, but could you really explain say a melody with an image? it fails to explain so many of the fundamental parts that make it up.

Is consciousness the only way to experience this, is consciousness the language?

anyway, like to hear some of your thoughts, and to know more about this whole matter and antimatter thing, and why the uneven amount?

The amount might not be uneven. There's always the possibility of entire galaxies of anti-matter out there. There would be no way (right now) for us to know that it was anti-matter without going there.

Again, if there was an equal amount of matter and anti-matter it would not necessarily mean that all "would be light and empty space". Annihilation only occurs if matter and antimatter touch each other.

You are being bombarded by positrons from space all the time. Anti matter is used in several scientific applications actually.Positron emission tomography,or PET scans,show glucose metabolism in the brain for example.

Why there is so much more matter than anti matter in the universe is a huge problem in astrophysics. There are several theories as to why,but in my limited understanding of the subject,none are satisfactory explanations,so I won't delve into them here.

I recommend The Tao Of Physics if you want to learn how closely these concepts are related to Eastern religion/philsophy and ying/yang concepts.

You are being bombarded by positrons from space all the time.

Not only that, but cosmic-rays and high-energy radiation from the sun is constantly creating tiny amounts of anti-matter inside your body. The anti-matter then quickly comes in contact with normal matter and anihilates, creating millions of tiny nuclear explosions in your body every second  :wink:

I'm not sold on the idea that there is more matter than antimatter in the universe. That may only be true in our galaxy.
