The bible was created by mere mortals. * 1
    #18600078 -

Just men made of flesh and blood, and who those men are cannot and might never be proven.

Among other things, their true agendas cannot be proven, and neither can their states of mental health at the time.

There is no proof or any plausible indication that "god" or any supernatural beings influenced the writing of these books of wood and leather.

Even today, I could write a book about the end of the world, how you should live and behave - and if an apocalypse happened 500 years from now, and somebody found my book in the ruins of society and in their deranged state of mind started to preach it, and if more people gradually joined in, it could become a religion. A religion worshiping me... or sweet potatoes, or any other object, person, verb or noun. And even then, it would still have more merit then Christianity or Islam or Judaism, because at least it would have successfully prophesied the apocalypse, right?

Scrolls in the older writings, unbound parchment or papyrus in the newer writings, not so much wood or leather. But hey, God suffuses all of space-time according to the best descriptions of both theistic and non-theistic religions. Every single thing in existence posits God simply by virtue of its existence, so it follows that the reflections and attributions of God's Presence, though penned by humans, is no exception. The problem is not in affirming that Ultimate Reality is commonly referred to as God, the problem is that humans have attributed all kinds of things to God. Since people apparently like to argue, fight, and kill , what better subject is there to fight about? Perhaps you'd like to argue about in what way a sweet potato is divine, and how it is the incarnation of a non-physical Reality. I'd prefer other plants personally. :mushroom2:

Not once in the bible is Rum mentioned, not once is Pasta mentioned (not even Sauce), and rarely are there any mention of Pirates. Its just a blasphemous perversion from goat herding cave people, primitives who knew not the glory of Meat Balls in Marinara Sauce swimming in Noodles & washed down with Spiced Rum

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is just more  'theatre of the absurd' like the Dada movement was. It fails to account for the almost invariant themes that have continued to arise from the collective unconscious of humanity since time immemorial. Birth, puberty, sexuality, reproduction, death are fairly easy to see as mind-blowing biological events with shrouded in numinosity (along with fire, lightning, animals, edible plants, etc.). But indications that our earliest representational ancestors (artisans, sculptors, carvers, cave painters) developed magick and religion with themes of rebirth, resurrection, ascension, judgement, punishment, souls, and myth cannot be relegated to meaningless absurdity. Fairly sophisticated astronomical predictions from the Bronze Age testifies to the power of human observation. These other things I mentioned are not apprehended by the Senses, but by Intuition. Intellect and Feeling attempt to explicate the Intuitive (not very well). These are Jung's categories. Ken Wilber illustrated AQAL (All Quadrants All Levels). The spiritual categories are in the Upper Left Quadrant and represent inner experiences without which human beings are quite incomplete. Mockery in this domain has its limits. I prefer the "Neti, neti" (Not this) of Hinduism.

Mockery, unfortunately, remains the best defense against the Fundamentalists who are in positions of power to make changes that affect us all (re: teaching creationism in schools, combining church and state, mandating that morality must come from God or it is foundation-less, etcetera).  If they seek political approval/condoning of their religion, then I demand equivalent representation of FSMism.  The truly spiritual, a la omnipresent archetypal themes, gnostic revelations, and inwardly-found Compassion, can be sought (or rejected) privately and need not be afraid of or concerned about the rationality-reinforcing, absurdist tactics employed by the Disciples of the Spaghetti Monster.

In the Name of His Noodliness,
Yours Truly.
